Hi Old Timer, at least not as old as me(HAHA).
If the starter turn the motor over then it probably is a fuel problem. When was the last time it was running? Also did you do anything to the scoot add something or take something off or change something. Need little more detail to try and diagnose the problem. Alleyoop

I'm missing something here...
I'm not understanding whether you're able to get the STARTER cranking, OR if it cranks but the engine won't start.
If it's not cranking when jumping the solenoid, there may be a problem with the starter. My Xingyue did that when new, and I replaced the starter (VERY easy to do with simple hand-tools).
If it's cranking but won't fire, then as Alleyoop says, it may be a fuel problem. However, if it cranks and won't fire, the FIRST thing to check is the "kill-switch" on the right handlebar. If you lift the seat open, it often throws the kill-switch by "bumping"it. I've had that happen more times than I like to admit!
Next, be sure the SIDE-STAND is all the way UP. Most scoots have a safety-interlock that disables the ignition if the side-stand is down. It's easy to accidentally push the side-stand down just a little while walking the scooter, or kick-starting. Last thing is to be SURE you're engaging at least the rear brake lever while starting. To be sure, squeeze BOTH brake levers while hitting the starter. Most scooters have a safety-interlock on both levers and squeezing either brake will allow starting, but at least the rear brake must be engaged.
So... If it CRANKS but won't start, please do the easy checks first...
1: Make sure the kill-switch on the handlebar is NOT engaged.
2: Make sure the SIDE-STAND is FULLY UP.
3: Make sure brake levers are squeezed while cranking.
4: If none of those work, try squirting a little starting fluid into the carb (air-filter removed) and if it fires off the prime, there is likely a fuel-delivery problem.
If it simply will NOT crank, even when jumping the solenoid, the starter may have gone bad. My Xingyue (similar to your scooter) had a wire come loose inside the starter, preventing it from engaging.
If they crank, but won't fire, most often it's due to the KILL-SWITCH accidentally being pushed, the SIDE-STAND not being fully UP or the BRAKE-LEVER not being squeezed enough to bypass the interlock.
Hope this may help!
Sincerely,
Leo in Texas

What is the exact size of the Vacuum and fuel lines on the GY6's 3.5MM or 4 MM. Thanks for the help and info for the new Old Guy
