It's one of the reasons we can filter to the front of a traffic lane here in California. Of course that wouldn't of helped your situation.
Scary as all heck too.
I'm glad you are okay, but of course time will tell.
As for the bike, they can be replaced, you can't.

My scoot is at a local scooter shop being evaluated for insurance repairs. The insurance inspector is going by to validate the repairs listed in the estimate. If the amount goes beyond a certain value, it will be totalled. If it stays under, I may be able to get it back and be up and running again.
I've got mixed feelings on what I want. On the one hand, I was just getting started getting the scooter sorted out and tuned. On the other hand, if it's been in an accident, there is the possibility it may never run/ride as smoothly again without significant repairs that may not be apparent right now.
we wait.....

Cool. Just got the word from the adjuster/inspector that they have arranged with the repair shop to get the scoot repaired with replacement parts and paint work where needed. Instead of totaling it.

I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt, and your luck with your scooter and the Insurance company. I only wish you luck in the future.. And fewer inattentive drivers.

I hear ya. I'm going to replace my helmet with a dayglo variety. Maybe sew a brilliant safety orange vest to my riding jacket. Anything to add more visual stimulation for weary or inattentive drivers. That, and try some different positioning when I'm in precarious circumstances at a red light.

Just discovered something. I drove Mom's Sable to work yest. Her mirror is in a terrible place for me. It actually blocked my view of an SUV coming down the on-ramp. An SUV, folks!
So sometimes--SOMETIMES--the car driver might be telling it true when he says "I never saw you!"
Of course, most of the time it's actually because they were texting, or dialing, or applying makeup, or reading something....
craisin, I agree that changing from all-black is a very good idea. Anything we can do to be more visible may help.

Some advice. Become hypervigilant. Winner. I'm always anticipating what the cars all around me might try. I turn it into a game to keep me fresh. Yeah Kat, people don't turn their heads and look. Big stuff evades their attention.

Bright colors, and appropriate gear are essential to riding. However, nothing is going to make Theresa Textalot see you when she is staring at her phone. Nothing is going to make Barry Blastingmusic see you when he is adjusting his sound system. And nothing is going to make Walter Workaholic see you when his eyes are closing for several seconds at a time due to lost sleep.
You must keep aware of everything around you, learn to automatically have escape routes appear in your mind, and never think you are safe just because you are doing the right thing.

Yeah well, be careful (and get the modulator) because the last one who ran into you really did not know "the way to San Jose"

(adjusting red tie) I'll tell ya folks, scooter riders don't get no respect! For sure, for sure. None of us want to end up like poor Eliot Spoad who met his fate like the proverbial toad. By the funeral guest list, you could tell he was missed but not like that last time in the road. BADUMP!!! PISHHhhh (cymbal crash) OK, seriously folks. I got hit from behind about 4 years ago at a stop sign. Apparently the cager behind me thought I was going to just blow through the stop sign to beat traffic coming down the road from a light. So she stepped on the gas and bounced me across the hood, up the windshield and then I fell off her roof. Busted my Silverwing pretty good (but I finally got around to fixing it 3 1/2 years later.) Bruised my butt pretty good (thought I got my hip busted it hurt so bad) and my hand slammed on her hood but I was not injured seriously at all. ATGATT went a long way to ensure that. I know I was not invisible that time as I was wearing one of those hi-viz vests like construction workers wear. (got it from a LOWES home improvement store) Even being seen sometimes is just not enough to prevent some idiot from running into you. Hard to defend yourself and avoid trouble when they are right there close to you then they suddenly do something radical with no time or room for you to flee. Kind of makes road rage understandable sometimes.

Bandito2, all I remember was the stout hit from behind and then me rolling and rolling and rolling like I was on a rinse cycle. I thought I was finished rolling, but nope - one more roll. I went forward - you went backward. Not sure if there is a better option there...
All I know is it's the last time I want to do that. I'm going to mount the trunk and light that puppy up like a christmas tree now. But you're right - you just can't eliminate all the risk of an intentional or unattentive driver. But I'll sure try....
