Sorry to hear about your experience, davec, and glad you're back up on the horse. To OP: I hate pigs. That's why I always follow the law (except speeding in a 25) so if they **** with me, I **** back and if they badger me while I'm riding, they will be up on YouTube the next day. I don't put up with their shi8. I know the laws and I know my rights. I know too many of them after having a brother-in-law in the force (plain clothes officer, ultra-corrupt) that abuse their power. You gotta push back to keep that line from creeping in too close. No problem I'm dealing with the new life changing requirements Yea, the cops lately are becoming something. My GF drives a little white Mustang with personalized plates. She gets stopped, every time now, if she's in a certiain part of town. They must have the puter flaged so when the cops check plates, her's pops up as "stop and harass her just for the heck of it'.

I personally have known cops who stop women JUST to try to get the phone number. It's a sick abuse of authority.

ridiculous! Boots are only a recommendation on a motorcycle, where the engine is between the legs, not where the feet are already protected by the body of the bike!
Gloves, I always wear gloves. I'd rather wear gloves than a helmet, on my scoot! More than likely I'll make a slide, or hit my hands, than hit my head. But still... I think gloves should be mandatory, like goggles; even in hot weather.

I think gloves should be mandatory, like goggles; even in hot weather. If you ever personally get to see what can happen to someones feet when their shoes come off in even a low speed scooter accident you would not think the requirement ridiculous. Picture a black and blue foot split between the toes right up to the shin bone which is what can happen in a 25 mph fall off a scooter. The over the ankle boot requirement is not only to prevent burns from a muffler and protection while on a motorcycle. Over the ankle helps keep the footware on you when you have fallen off and are sliding or rolling on the pavement. Strike an unshod foot against a granite curb, metal drain grate or drawn sheet metal sign post even at the realatively low speeds equated with a moped and you may never walk right again. Last person I know of that had a 25 mph fall from his scooter got back from 6 months in the hospital and another 6 months in hospice care a few months ago and he still has almost a year of physical therapy left to be able to walk any distance even with a cane now. He now knows that it was ridiculous for him to not have been wearing boots while riding his scooter. He also realizes that due to his lack of gear that he will never be able to ride again except maybe a trike. His big fear now is the day he has to go in to have some more of the temporary hardware in his feet surgically removed. There is reasonably priced perforated or mesh summer gear that can be worn even when Semi Tropical roadway temps are hovering at 115 degrees and they are cooler than riding without gear as they keep the direct rays of the sun off of your skin. Helps prevent skin cancer too without the greasy sun protection lotions that only make you feel hotter and make the road dust stick to you. The right gear will keep you cool and clean even when the thermometer has risen past 100 and in the midday sun.

Under Armor gear is too expensive but it does work. Having on an under armor shirt, for example, the tight spandex-like ones, is actually cooler than having no shirt; the wicking process makes it work just like a radiator, so the cooling is immediately noticeable on super hot days. So anything like that that includes protection would be good for hot weather. My buddy went down on his Goldwing last summer, was only going like 15mph and really dented in his steel-toe boot (one) so I can imagine what that would have done to him w/o steel toes. I know what I need to get but can't afford it all. I"m window shoppin.

I think I had a fairly bad morning this morning. Didn't see a flooded road in the dark on my way to work. Totally swamped the engine. Got recovered back to my local garage. I'm currently four hours late for work. Not sure this'll go down well with the boss.

It has: phoned work to give them an update and they said just use a days leave. Garage are just waiting on my new air filter that they ordered in for my next service that was booked in for Monday anyway.
I'm really glad about the work issue. I've only been in "civvi street" for a month and battled through snow, rain, mechanical failure, etc, to get to work. You hear so many horror stories about civvi employers when you're in the forces (it's half the reason people don't leave IMHO) just sacking people at the drop of a hat. I guess it helps they're all bikers to: they know what it's like riding in winter, and even donated my armoured jacket and trousers!
I'm gonna have a nice day off now and de-stress after this morning (I even bought some Marlboros this morning for the first time in a year!).

I got caught in a tropical downpour on my way in today but had just touched up the water proofing on my boots and gauntlets so they stayed nice and dry. My Guardian Rain Suit over my armor kept me dry and comfortable so I made it to the office on time and presentable. I use a pair of ball and loop bungies to keep the cuffs of the rain suit from gapping around my boots which helps prevent any water from getting blown up underneath the cuffs and over the tops of my boots. The Aprilia 250 I ride has been a champ so far and in 14,000 miles has not lost me any time at work rain or shine.

"Twisties" in the British Forces. A rubber band works just as well, especially five minutes before you're due to march onto a parade and one of your Twisties has decided to leg it under a locker like a cowardly yellow "so-n-so".
An update on my day: got the bike back. "Patricia" needed a carb clean and a jump from a good battery after I basically wore it down trying to get her running again. The new air filter has changed the bike: nearly put myself through the wall of the car park at the garage........again! I do that nearly every time I go. First service: new sparker, second service: valve heights, third service: carb clean, and now a new filter. You'd think I'd have learnt by now to go easy with the throttle when I pick it up from there. Lol. I took an eight pack of beer in for the mech guys. They had that look in their eyes this morning, which I'm sure I've given to a few people as a technician, that just said, "I've not even got into work properly yet and you're here again with a problem that you can't solve yourself."
Should be good for the run in tomorrow for nights, and I'll get to ride in daylight for a change so I can see the standing water on the one new bit of Tarmac on the whole 45 miles to work! Damn black water on black road.........I didn't know it was there until it was spraying up around my fairing. I stayed good and dry though! I think I prefer riding in snow now, to rain.

Alzheimer's kicking in Just try and remember that when you get on your scoot, if there's no where to put your hands, you're facing the wrong way! Ian
