Hey guys,
I have a friend who's 1986 Honda elite 50 will not start. We have checked for spark, spark plug is very good and producing a blue flame. We have thoroughly cleaned the carburetor and adjusted the idle air mixture. The Scooter has over 5000 miles and has been ridden very hard. The Scooter cranks but will not catch or start. Kickstart will not work either. Put in a new battery as well. Could this indicate low compression caused by Old piston rings? We have a 63cc top end rebuild kit. Will installing this be our solution?
It is probably low compression by old piston rings? What do you guys think?

Additionally, it's sometimes make a loud popping noise as we are trying to start it and kickstart it

Is the Air FIlter on as well as the Muffler? Popping usually means to much fuel, so when it pops on you take the spark plug out and see if it is wet with fuel. If so lean out the mixture on the carb, turn it 1 full turn clockwise if its a CV type carb. Alleyoop

We have tried starting it with the air filter on and we have taken the air filter off to see if it will start. Both times it would not start but playing with the adjustment screw seemed to help it want to start. We got it to a point where it almost started by playing with the adjustment screw but still cannot start.
Spark plug does have some gas on it

Does your carb look like this: If so turn the fuel ratio screw CLOCKWISE until it stops then turn it out 2 full turns and see if that helps. Alleyoop

Here is a CVK carb its a 24 mm with the Air Ratio Mixture uncapped the smaller 50s usually have a pumper on them. Alleyoop

If the carb has a pump on it give the throttle a couple full twists before trying to start it that will squirt some fuel into the venturi. If the spark plug is firing it should fire at least once. Alleyoop

We adjusted the idle screw all the way in and then back out two full turns. The Scooter sounded a lot better and sounded stronger and wanted to start but still did not start. I will try twisting the throttle
