So yesterday morning, I made a food run in the rain. ( have been doing a lot of snow riding too) And in less than 3 miles the bike starts misfiring and backfiring horribly and loosing power. That lasted for about 20 secs. Even after I notice a slight power loss. A half mile later it starts back again and this time I could tell it lost all spark. (Like hitting the kill switch) No amount of throttle or anything would make it fire again. Ever since then the bike has no spark. I've torn down the top end out of suspicion of a warped valve and because i'm replacing the piston and no signs of problems, compression sounds good. I know its getting gas because starter fluid made no difference. Just random and sudden no spark.
So far i've ruled out the CDI, and the coil/wire by spare parts. All lead point at the stator or pick up coil. The bike did act like the timing was off right before it died (Extraneous popping/ back firing, misfiring) so the pickup-coil is under suspicion. My battery was fine.
What caused this SUDDEN problem?
Can the pick-up coil die out that fast?
I have a running parts bike I could get a spare engine from but an engine swap by myself seems doable but difficult and is my last resort.
I could also get just the stator off of it but if that does not fix the problem I just did work to create more for myself.
Also while removing the flywheel I managed to crack the case around where the stator sits. Its not bad just cracked. The whole area is weak and can be easily broken with medium to low force.. Don't remember it being like that before...

The rain and snow probably got into the stator and shorted it out is my thinking. Alleyoop

It was light rain out when all this happened and I was riding for less than 10 mins. The day prior I was on it all day no problems Its to my understanding that the engine fires in this order : : Pick-up > CDI > ignition coil > high tension lead > boot > plug... Right? The engine sounded like improper timing followed reduced spark so i'm leaning toward the pick-up coil. My question is if ive ridden in severe snow and rain and had no issues then then why would light rain kill it in 10 mins? If it was in the process of shorting out, would the abnormal voltage cause the cdi to get confused when to fire thus the backfiring/misfiring followed by no spark? If I replace either one i'm going to do both, I just like knowing what went wrong for quicker diagnosis in the future.

At first you say you swapped out the coil/wire, so you've ruled that out, then in your next post you say you suspect it's the coil. Don't try to overthink it, swap the coil/wire from the bad scooter onto the good one, if that's fine it's most likely either the stator or the R/R. You can swap everything but the stator to the good scooter easily to test them.

It is the STATOR that produces the electricity which in turn feeds the Pick up coil and the CDI. Then the CDI feeds the Coil boot cap and plug.
Riding in the rain you could have gone through a puddle and water got in the stator area and shorted it. It Happens with a car sometimes you can plow through a good amount of water to fast and the water splashes all from underneath and the Alternator may short out and pretty soon your running just off the battery until the battery dies and no spark.
Usually when you buy a Stator you also get the Pick Up Coil. So to satisfy your thinking First install the Pickup Coil which does not require you to take off the Flywheel. If that fixes the problem then you have a spare Stator for later use. If just putting on the New Pick up coil you still have the problem then you will need to take the Flywheel off and install the new stator. Alleyoop
