New max for me today. A little over 100 miles round trip at a casual 45mph or so. Crazy car traffic outside Valley Center. They don't slow for scooters there I guess.
What is really giving me confidence in the GY6 engine is my buddy's son that races GY6 carts. He knows a lot about the engine and tells me for what I am doing, the stock engine will be the least of my problems. The peripheral systems on the Tank scooter will provide ample troubleshooting opportunities, but the engine should be fine for the putting around I do.

Yup,, I hear that,,most guys rip these around at like 7-10K rpm without worrying on a stock bottom end,,so I think Ill be just fine running my 6-7K at 45-50 mph...lol

As long as you don't flog the motor the trip length is determined by your butt's endurance on any well prepped scooter. If you find you are hitting the throttle stop at the smallest up grade, or change of wind direction, you are flogging the motor and need to slow down 5 MPH.
I have ridden my 50cc china scooter non-stop except one quick stop for gasoline for up to 150 miles in one ride.
I have ridden my 150cc china scooter over 200 miles non-stop except for one quick stop for gasoline.
I have taken my 250cc china scooter on out of state trips with 300 plus mile per day runs.
I have taken my 500cc TMAX on 400 plus mile day trips and have made a few 600 - 800 mile trips with it towing a trailer loaded with camping gear.

Yup,, Its all about throttle/RPM control and keeping the motor from being under hard load(flogging)for long periods of time..on long upgrades I make sure go easy on the motor,,then on the downside I barley crack the fuel open,,this lets the motor cool down after the long hard pull..riding this way will get you too where you need to be and back home...as long as you have clean oil and everything is tight and up to snuff ride on...

The issue on going down steep hills is not enough gas (lean) at high RPMs, that is what will kill the engine fastest. Feathering the throttle will actually give more potential for damage at the high RPMs a steep downhill grade can take your engine to, because you are creating an intentionally lean situation. It's cheaper and faster to change out brake pads than it is to change out an engine or do a top end rebuild. So keep your RPMs low by going down steep hills pulsing the brakes after putting a strain on the engine by climbing up the previous side.

You guys got me thinking. I think I've done about 170 miles at once on the 260, but I know I stopped after the first 70 and again probably 10 miles later so I'm no where near a lot of the posters here. Some of the trips listed here are amazing and a real testament to your mechanical skills. Well done.

The Taotao looks like a nice one. Not sure if they are CARB certified for California. I have not seen a Taotao on the streets in California yet. It is a big problem for China scoot manufactures to keep their CARB certs up to date. They don't seem to understand each model year needs a new cert, and it takes 8 months to obtain.
I can't be sure they know what they are going to build in 8 months........

I never use my brakes coming down a steep hill unless there is a big sweeper ahead that I'm too hot for..lol..the CVT slows me down plenty with throttle off...just don't ride down hills WOT and you will be fine...

The longest trip I have done in one weekend was about 580 miles round trip from memphis to nashville on a puma romeo 150cc. Riding 60-70 miles at a time. I took hwy 72 from memphis and then took natchez trace up to hwy 100 and took that in to nashville.

My 49cc Jonway China Scooter.
Longest Day 220 miles on my one way trip from Las Vegas to Boise ID
Longest Trip 900 miles 5 days from Las Vegas round trip to Carson City NV
There is very little you can not do on a 49cc if you have the time and enjoy slow.

I've only done about 50 miles, max, and that was with a break. It's good to see that there are apparently no major issues that creep up with these lower-powered (and I hear, "lower quality") Chinese scoots after the major components are upgraded just from doing a long trip. I'd like to do a long range "camping/touring" trip with other 50cc owners but I always worry about traffic getting pissed off (cuz I know I'll rip the wrong cager's head off, and I want to avoid that situation). I wish there were some scooter/cycle lanes for just that type of thing.

As long as you don't flog the motor the trip length is determined by your butt's endurance on any well prepped scooter. If you ever want to win the "butt endurance," game, get yourself an Airhawk II (cheaper than I, does the same thing) seat cushion. It works miracles. This is the small one on Amazon--my review is the one on top: Airhawk II seat cushion

Well I rode my Roketa 250cc scooter about 550 miles when I rode out to Pittsburg Texas from Grapevine. It might have been more though as I didn't go on the freeways and took the country roads instead and I sort of went the long way around too. Plus when I rode way down to Zabcikville Texas it was about the same mileage interestingly enough. I also stayed off the freeways doing that too. I found it more interesting to ride on the country roads and enjoy the scenery as you don't have to do freeway speeds and you can slow down to check things out or stop even.

I run approx 40 miles/day for work. just rolled 7400 miles this week.
Rode out to Orange County and back a couple of times, taking a very out-of-the-way route to avoid the freeway. Taken a couple 80 mile trips without any issues . Runs better now than when I purchased it.
