Hey guys, Its been a while since I was around hope you all are good,,I believe I need a new fuel sending unit for my fuel gauge,,it goes up a hair and stops,,I do need to remove the unit to see what it looks like and make sure its not hung up...is there a way of telling if its the meter/gauge that's bad so i don't waste my time and $$ also...
Thanks!!

Thanks bro,, Ill let ya know whats up soon as it warms up here a bit to work on,,I had it started today for the first time since October,,fired right up,,had a battery tender on it and carb was drained,,then sprayed some WD in the inlet of carb and cranked it a few times,,thats my way of Winterizing LOL.. I really need to take it out and look at it,,move it and see if the gauge works,,the one you posted looks different than the one on Taotao site for the EVO,,it shows five bends and your shows two..really wont know till I get it out Here is the one they show for it..

You should be able to take the sender out and check the resistance versus float angle. If the resistance doesn't change as you move the float or if the float circuit has zero resistance or is open then the sender is bad.
I believe this is fairly common.
If the resistance looks ok you would want to look up what the resistance range should be and verify. If the sender looks good than it is wiring or your gauge.

Ohh,so basically it is a variable resistor that changes value when moved,,cool,,now I will see if it goes from zero ohms to whatever,,then find out if the value I see is correct.
Thanks man!!

Took the unit out tonight and the float was off the end floating around in the tank,,the unit still works good when I move the linkage.Does anybody have any ideas what I can use to upgrade the junk float,,maybe a piece of cork?? The floats the chinese use are not that great and if I put another one in there its going to come apart just like this one did,,i saw small black pieces of it floating around.I will drain the tank tomorrow and clean it out. Cork?

This is the exact model scooter I have but mine is red. Mine is 2014 model. Already had to have the stator replace and the valves adjusted. I have about 3300Km on her, Got the bike in late February.
Wish you lived in the Dallas area so we could go on a ride together and compare bikes.

Don't use cork. I tried it. I works for a little, but that's it. I tried to find a plastic carb float at Napa Auto, but had no luck with that either; couldn't find one that fit. Once I figured out time/money I just ordered a new one. I've been through three or four, and this one is now going out. Reads good when full, then once it gets around a half a tank or so, it falls to E. Next time I'm ordering three, or I may just give up on 'em.

The float at the end of the line fell off of mine before " well it broke to pieces " .

You know what guys,, I just did a fuel pump/sending unit on my 2003 Ford Ranger and the float is about the same darn size,,I'm going to see if I can use it today. That should solve the issue with the crappy float that disintegrates after one year problem..

Well the unit works again,,I had to cut the ford float down some for it to fit through the hole in top of tank,,hopefully it will hold up longer than the stock one...lol..I would almost recommend that the float be removed from ALL scooters during PDI,,it will eventually fall apart and start to cause fuel delivery issues shortly down the road...I believe they make a good material that you guys could use for making a float,,just need to find out what and where to get it,,then do the mod
