Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and to scootering in general. I'm glad to see such an active community for scoots online! I just recently purchased a cheap 1985 Honda Elite 80 (I've had my eye on this specific model since I was a kid) that's been sitting in a barn for 10 years.
This is my first engine-related project and I'm excited to get my hands dirty! Because the scoot was so cheap, I've been buying all of the performance parts I'd need to restore it. I have two days in a row off this weekend and I'm planning on taking it apart and cleaning it from the inside out (only makes sense for an engine that's been sitting that long).
Does anyone have any advice for a first-timer? Some engine-related wisdom you didn't know when you started? I'd greatly appreciate it.
At any rate, hello! It's good to be here!

Hi'ya! Glad you found us.
Can't really help with mechanical. But I can give encouragement! And requests for photos as you go.
Have fun fixing up your dream-scoot!

Thanks Doug! I noticed on and downloaded that from the scoot dawg forum when it was active. And hello everyone! Thanks for the warm welcome. I am mechanically inclined, but this is my first project with a motor this size. I'm better with electrical stuff. I do have a question for anyone familiar with the elite 80. I've taken side panels off so I could have a look at the engine and I immediately noticed on the left side of the scooter (looking at it from behind) there's a small black tube with nothing attached to it (that seems to be related to air intake) and a large hole with two screw holes where something is not anymore. I tried to find this part in the manual, but could not locate it anywhere. I took the best pictures I could with my cell phone, hopefully it's clear what part I'm missing. sorry if those are hugeThis has me pretty confused, but other than that the only thing about taking it apart and replacing everything is the back tire. The suspension spring (which I also need to replace) seems like it could get tricky.
