Hey guys, I was just curious about this. On a lot of videos and tutorials for valve adjustments, I always see people recommend to take the spark plug out. Why is this necessary? If I perform a valve adjustment without taking the spark plug out, will that affect me in any negative way? Thank you

It makes it easier to turn the motor over, when you are lining your cam gear at top dead center. Also it won't be able to start. You know safety first!

Easier to turn over the engine, for one and it will hold top dead center while you are doing the adjustment a little easier. I've always done it with the plug in, but I can see the reasons for taking it out.

Aside from preventing accidental starts many manuals have you align the cam from the nut holding the timing gear on it. With the plug in place you can snap this off and experience rebound from compression in the cylinder. Some have even snapped a link on the timing chain from the plug being left in the cylinder if they try to rotate the cam.
