As all of you have learned the way to insert a photo/image on the new V5 layout is to click on the above image icon in the menu navigation bar and a pop up window appears that allows you to insert your image link that begins with http:// and hit insert image and the photo appears right before you in the normal reply area and as a BBCode if you're using the Quick Reply area. Today I inserted a plugin that allows you to simply paste a image link in your reply and when you finish the post and hit the create thread in the normal reply or the post in the quick reply the photo will automatically appear, no code tags, no insert in the image drop down, just that simple.
Now photos come in a variety of formats and this will work in the four following formats:
jpg
png
gif
bmp
Any photo/image link that ends with one of these formats will work. Also the plugin has a sizing option and I have it set to 480px by 360px so if you put a photo in as big as a barn it will downsize it to this size the same as the image resize code for all of the photos here now. Only thing is you will not be able to click on this and have it go back to the original size.
All photos put in that smaller than 480px By 360px will stay the size they are and will not be changed.
Ok so you may ask what is a photo/image link that works and here is what one would look like:
httv://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l553/dryshave/bike28jpg
Now I changed the p in the http to a v so it would not come up as a photo when I hit create thread. This is a very large photo of a scooter project by a member elsewhere. .
Now I'm going to put the link in correctly and when I hit create thread the image will show up resized from it's original 1024px to the settings I gave above.

JR,
Does this mean I can paste in a jpeg saved on my hard-drive? Or, must it still be saved on a site like PhotoBucket?
Thanks!

Leo Yes Leo it must be a link from a host of some sort can even be a image/photo from a net search as long as it is one of the above formats and a link. It doesn't replace the old attachment system.

I don't want all my pics on a linked photobucket where it can get hacked, etc. I prefer to keep my pics of my scoot and my porn on my own hard drive Does that mean I can't post pics here?
Edit (in reply to questions above) So, can I post pics directly from my hard drive? The answer would be NO, unless u use photobucket, then it isn't your hard drive.

Edit (in reply to questions above) So, can I post pics directly from my hard drive? The answer would be NO, unless u use photobucket, then it isn't your hard drive. No attachments or posting from your hard drive here on this forum. PB has a limit on each forum as far as download they allow on each forum which is 200mb. The old system they allowed unlimited download and it all went to their servers and was free but no longer for the new software we have now.
When we converted to the new software the attachment limit was already at the max, what's the choice? For Doug or myself to go through every attached photo here and delete them for storage space or buy space from PB. Not a option that he or I was going to do, I donate my time to keep the forum going not going to donate money on a free forum nor and I going to spend hours looking for and deleting photos, hope all can understand that.
So if you want to post photos find a photo upload site and put them there, some are still free for so much space but just like Proboards they are quitting the free space.
My grandpa always told me there is only one thing in this world free and "that's a hard time".

I wasn't trying to be a bigger butt (cause a s s is censored) than I already am, but when the question was asked if one could post a picture directly from the hard drive and the answer was 'yes, if you post from a host ...,' when the answer is really No.
I understand the bandwidth issue and agree
I just dislike tap dancing around the question (I been working for the gov't for 45 years and that's all we do)
I never knew my grandfather but my father taught me a lot
so, I like the site, don't like pb, and gonna go in the geerage and make vroom vroom sounds

Leo asked the question and if you look at my answer I answered yes to the Photobucket site and said you must have a link. Sorry for the confusion. I should have been clearer.
