i found an 80's yamaha at a yard sale. they claim they have the title but can't find it. the bike is not running and would need major repair. if i bought it i would try and salvage some parts to sell on ebay and scrap the rest. they only want $25 and i think i could possibly make $200+ but don't know if i should get involved without the title.
thoughts?

Many states do not title vehicles that old...some do not title MC's, period.

i really don't think it is stolen. although i didn't think to ask them how long they owned it. they said it's been months since they had it running. i shouldn't have any problems parting it out without a title, correct? if i can get my friend's truck i think i'm going to go get it. if all goes well, i'll have a little extra money to put towards that new scooter.

Go talk to the DMV or even a local policeman.

Ya don't need a title to sell it for parts. You're not gonna register it anyway. Buy it, strip it, make some xtra bucks, fix up your scoot Enjoy life Dave

on the off chance it has an alarm on the vin , it could get ugly , if you were to be challenged .

well i didn't buy it. i couldn't talk my friend into helping. it might still be there if anyone in the area wants to look into it. the bike had a $25 sign but the ad online said $15. miami.craigslist.org/brw/gms/4262151393.html

ramblin, I agree with Doug. Check it with your DMV or police, just to make sure there's no report on its VIN.
If not, if it's clean, then buy it. Far as I've ever heard you don't need a title to part it out.

Is there a Home Depot near you? You can buy anything at all from them, then rent their pickup. Don't remember the rate, but it's apparently pretty cheap from what the HD guy said.

About $20 for the first hour, usually.

After looking at it in the CL ad, I think you are right about just parting it out, pretty sad. You friend was right, lifting it into a pick up would require a couple gorillas.

That's a Yamaha Radian dude two guys who ate their Wheaties could through that in the back of a pick up easily. Three would be ideal but the third could be anyone over age 10. Certainly worth $15 just for the seat pan...
