I have a 2001 Linhai 260cc scooter I purchased a year ago before I got a transplant. Have not been able to get it on the road yet, buy drive it up and down my street to keep everything active. Well, when I start it, and or take off slowly, there is a clunking sound coming from rear under air filter beside tire. It also does it when taking off with a slight jerking, but only up to about 5mph. I want to sell it because of this, but if it is a minor fix, I would like to keep it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much. Attachments:

COuld just be the clutch is glazed and is slipping. You can take the Bell off and check the pads if they are glazed give them a little sanding to take the glaze off and give it a drop or so of oil on the SWIVEL PIN so the pads do not hang up also a little on the RUBBER GROMMETS that hold them retracted so they do not flop around. Alleyoop Here is a VIDEO on how to clean it out and where to give it a little lube so the pads work smoothly: itistheride.boards.net/index.cgi?board=tt&action=display&thread=505&page=1[

Would that cause a loud clunking? To describe it a little more, it is not a consistant clunking, it does it when it wants. What i mean by this is that it doesnt do it every so many seconds, it does it when it wants. It also does not matter if it is warmed up or running cold, but doesnt do it as much in idle when running warm (it always does it during takeoff) . I could take a quick video of it while it is in idle if that helps, but I need to know how to add it? Thanks much

It could be that maybe a spring came off one of the Clutch Pads or it broke by one of the spring holders etc.. Also it could be your gears meshing when was the last time you changed the oil in the tranny. The gears sometimes make noise when they actually mesh, you can usually quiet them down by putting in heavier oil like 90w140 or so it is a splash system and light oil does not stick to the gears the oil just runs off. The gears have play and there are 4 gears that have to mesh before it actually turns the wheel. Alleyoop

Well, I put 80 oil in today. I do not have a manual (and searched all over the internet today for one with no luck) and put it in a fill area next to the wheel hub. At first I put a litle in an area in the pastic on the side with a phillips screw that said oil, but the hole was too small, and it seemed to leak out of the plastic underneath. Then I put it in next to the wheel hub where there is this cap you can unscrew by hand and filled it to the top. It is becoming a big hassle without a manual and not knowing what is where. I dont have the tools to take apart right away, but will be able to take a video near the wheel and point out where the sound is coming from. Thanks so much for all your help guys.

Also take a picture of where you drained the oil and filled it. Alleyoop

Ok, here are the pics. White cap is where i filled it, screw is where i first tried to fill it, and where the Linhai is on the plastic seems to be where the sound is coming from. Im doing the video now. How do I get my pictures from my pc on to here?

Try using pushpictures, picturepush.com/host.php?image=10075950notice the UPLOAD in BLUE to the right click on that and it will put up some of your directories point it to where your video is and click on the Video and click on open it will then start to upload it. Then after it loads it go to the SECOND set of links and click on the 2nd one it will turn all blue and right click and click on COPY then come here and right click and click on past. Alleyoop

Yea I heard it, Sure sounds like a bad clutch pad is bounceing around. Take the cover off and take the bell off and check out the Actual cluch pads. Alleyoop

I had the same problem and it was glazed clutch pads, but I also swapped out the roller weights for Dr pulley sliders.
