We were living in Illinois, because we got over extented with bills, due to our son was not keeping his end of the deal. We would have had to let things go in order to afford a place here in Missouri. So we moved in with our middle son, in Quincy IL.. Neither me nor my wife, liked living in IL, because on a motorcycle permit, one still can't ride alone( have to have a licensed motorcycle rider with one). Health insurance was going to cost us more money in IL.. My son and his partner fought often and we felt uncomfortable living in there home, due to it and we were sleeping in the dining room. So our good friends, John and Ruby let us stay at there home, while searching for a home of our own. We found a place in Belle MO and started renting it yesterday. So when I think of good friends, well I think of John and Ruby taking us in. That is what true friends do for one another. My wifes Honda Rebel only has 2 more payments. So we are not bound to let it go back to the Bank.

Good friends indeed. And good news that you're getting bills and stuff under control. Once the Rebel is paid off, use that money to pay more on any other bills you owe. Dave Ramsey says pay off the ones due soonest first. If they're all due the same (ie credit cards) then pay off the lowest first.
Be sure to give those friends a big hug! And once your finances are sound, then treat them somewhere they like.

I have some really great friends like that as well... I don't have many close friends but, the one's I have would do anything, I mean anything for me and I'd do anything for them.
We all go to coffee, every friday night.... I haven't missed one in like 3 years. We all ride scoots, we all have 4x4's and we will probably all get motorcycles together.... I'm closer to those peeps then I am with my own brother.
When I blew the engine in my 4x4, my buddy Ray grabbed his tow truck, picked it up, took it to his yard, and found an engine for me, before we even got it off the hook. Then we did the swap at his tow yard..(using his tow truck to pull it and put it back in)... Kevin, while not too mechanically inclined, played gofer... getting lunch, parts, tools and anything else you could think of.... These guys are the most awesome group of friends anyone could ask for. Friends like that are priceless... Treat them right, and ask God to bless them.
Kevin has taken me in when I didn't have a place to stay after my divorce... If either one of those two guys has a problem with a scooter, they buy the parts and I put them in.

Yes, very good advice. We have one credit card- an Amazon card.. I use it mainly for scooter supplies. Tires, lightbulbs, sissy bar for Rebel, and luggage bags. The things needed paying off is a loan on truck $200 for 3 years, security finance $240 for 9 months, and quit going in the hole with checking account. It cost $50 for every check we write for overdraft protection. That adds up pretty fast when writing 5 checks. We need overdraft to get into house at the start. But not going to continue this way. We will quit, since I am taking over the finances. We have satelite tv which runs $100 per month, phone and internet which runs $80 per month, netflix that cost $8 per month( like that because can watch movies on android tablet). There is an art gallery where we are moving( can sell some art through it to make extra spending money). The is going to be helpful.
Bills Income
Rent $375 SSDI $2200 Sec Fin $240 Gallery can earn $600 monthly Rebel $167 Insur $125 Truck $200 Amazon $25 Electric $140 Phone/ In $80 Netflix $8 Satelite $100 Food $200 - We don't eat as much as our grown boys.. Total $1606- Saving about $600
Some money will go toward medical bills and perscriptions. There is a propane furnace where we are moving, but using inferred heaters will save money on propane. They do not get hot at the sockets like the old coil type space heaters. We are moving into a 800 sq foot home- smaller home with full basement. It was my wifes great grandmothers home. It has been remodeled and her cousin owns the house now. But it is a nice house.
I got credit to buy the Honda Rebel by having Security Finance. So we are thankful to Security Finance. I have a credit through Amazon but that isn't a major credit card. Have had offers through CapitalOne, but declined it. Eventually my hope is to get a bank loan to buy a house. So need good credit with certain financial institutions. Need to start selling art too, so I can earn some money too. Right now, it is just SSDI that controls my credit but really would like to make my own living too.

Scooter12,
Well, I was living in Illinois 'cause I was born there... But that's STILL no excuse... LOL! Took me 30 years to finally get to Texas. I'm sorry, no offense, I don't mean to "dis" Illinois, but HONESTLY, the living expense, taxes, corrupt government, laws and weather truly ARE somewhat "less than optimal"... I like Missouri: Nice folks there.
It's a real blessing to have friends like yours. The missus and I will be praying for you. We've had more than our share of hard times too. Good friends are, well, GOOD FRIENDS!
All our best to you, and for sure, don't lose that little Reb. They're sweet rides!
Sincerely,
Betty & Leo in Texas

Trying to think back to my Ramsey classes. I think to help your credit look better you will want to accept an offer for a major cc. But make sure there's no annual charge or finance charge on your purchases. I know one of mine is basically free if I pay it off; the other charges I think a pitzy percentage for charges (only comes to a couple bucks on big-charge months, which is why it's only used for Amazon and catalogs and shipping) Charge some little something each month, like a gas fill-up. Pay it off right away. Helps establish your good credit.
Another thing, not that I'm nagging. But if you're wanting to save on money, can you cut the satellite? Unless your broadcast tv just really stinks in your area, I don't see a lot of need for that expense when you've got a Netflix account. Don't most tv shows end up available there? If you cut satellite, that's an extra hundred each month you can pay towards the Rebel, then the truck.
Otherwise looks like you're living pretty tight already. Esp putting away into savings--good to have that to fall back on, just in case.

I totally understand the meaning of close friends, and the motorcycle/scooter family. My motorcycle group back in Denver will do anything for anyone. One of our motorcycle friends was killed and his wife seriously injured. One of the folks sold their bike to help the family cover expenses. Then the rest of the group, pooled their funds and bought her a new bike.
I have a rental house in Denver. The tenant moved out and trashed the house. I made a call for help cleaning the house up. 6 people showed up, on a Sunday, and cleaned the entire house in 3 hours.
They have an open invitation for anyone passing thru Denver, to spend the night at their house.
The scooter/bike community is a close knit group for sure
Yea, when you get stable, treat your friends.
Good luck and God speed
Dave

If you qualify for Food Stamps you will get a free phone but not with all the extras. Lots of them out there, some even put flyers at stores. blogs.investors.com/click/index.php/home/60-tech/2284-got-food-stamps-get-free-sprint-wireless-services
Two people on a 4 week month = $50 a week? I do all the grocery buying for a family of 5, I'm retired and even with sale shopping, coupons, etc. I know that even two people aren't eating very well on $50 a week unless you're on Food Stamps? At your SS rate I know that you would qualify for a minimum amount but not too much.
If you're on SSDI then you don't qualify for medicare for two years and your wife is left out on it anyway.
Lots of ways to stretch a dollar and make it on your own.
Friends? Yes I have a lot of friends that would help me if I was in need but I learned form my family a long time ago to take care of myself and when the chips are down and you need a real friend family is where you go, it goes with the saying blood is thicker than water.
I've seen to many of what one call friends be like the "old beer drinking buddies" got beer ya got buddies, run out of beer and you're by yourself.
