Hi all I bought a brand new TGB Xmotion 300i on Tuesday last week. Yesterday I lost control at a very slow speed (got the throttle caught on my jacket) and hit the fence at my house... I feel like a complete klutz! Anyway, apart from a small crack and some alignment issues, it's only cosmetic damage to the panels, but the headlights are badly scratched. Is there anything I can buy to polish these scratches out, or should I just buy new lenses? It's quite hard to see them, but if you look at the scratches on the panel above, they follow all the way down across the front of the lenses. Cheers

Oh man thats sucks. Theres several polishes on the market and cant tell for sure if yours are too deep. Probably are. If it were me Id have to replace everything since i cannot stand blemishes. Last scoot i owned within 2 weeks I git hit by a durango. I replaced every panel until it was good as new. I convinced the insurance company to pay me 1100.00 to rebuild the TaoTAo i paid 550.00 for! 6 months later I even sold it for 200.00 more than i paid for it new!

My mechanic has something that'll take 21-year-old light covers with all the clouding and scratches and all, and make them pretty much as clear as new. If you want, I can call him tom and ask what it is.
AND...here's my crash story. Second day I was actually on the road, Mom told me to stop by our old neighbours and show them what I'd bought. When I was leaving, I was turning left onto the road but my mind was worrying if there was anyone coming over the hill behind me at the crazy-speeds they drive on that road. So I ended up in the ditch.
So it happens to lots of us. Probably can happen to anyone. Feel klutzy, but don't dwell on it. Learn from it instead. In my case, I should've just turned right and looped around at a safer spot.

Spandi, I got it for $5250 including taxes and license. I have heard, however, that some places are now selling them for even less... Seems the $6 k figure was inaccurate.
And Kat, it would be great if you could find out what that stuff is... I have a feeling the scratches may be too deep, but I will give polishing them a try first. Thanks!

Hopefully they will polish out. You will probably need a restoration kit and not just one for fogging or clouding.
Button those sleeves, etc to prevent a repeat performance.

Speaking of being a klutz, I think that I have dropped every bike I have had. Mostly mishaps involving the kickstand. Like, kicking down the kickstand, not noticing it sprung back up, and letting go of the bike. Etc.

All right, alex, I called my mech. He said the stuff they use is pretty much a local guy, it's called BG headlight restoration. It requires sanding for scratch removal. But the sample in the shop is amazing--one all yellow and fogged and scratched and nasty, the other clear and looking almost new.
Sorry this took so long. It's been a REALLY busy week. My church had a recital, for which I played a handbells solo. Lots of practising for that one. LOTS of practising!

Just Googled them for you-- www.bgprod.com/home.htmlMaybe if it sounds good for you, maybe they'll ship it to you? Dunno what rates would be for international. Maybe there's a dealer in Aussie so it wouldn't cost horrid amounts? >'Kat

Alex,
THAT is a GREAT-looking scooter!
One thing I learned a L-O-N-G time ago is that minor cosmetic damage can often be "fixed" with careful application of graphics (either vinyl, decal or painted) to cover the area when matching the paint is too difficult. A little checkerboard panel, a black stripe, etc. can be applied over the damage once it's sanded smooth. Something to consider!
And welcome to the site! One of the amazing things about your great country (aside from the fabulous scenery) is that you have the world's COOLEST animals!
And don't feel TOO bad about the little mishap... Back in the day, I was on my brand-new 1970 Harley Electra-Glide at a red-light... As I stopped, I was checking out some near "nekkid" girls in a new 'Vette... I was looking to the right, and put my left foot down, failing to notice there was nothing but a deep construction ditch below my foot... I ended up in the ditch, with the once-new Harley on top of me. MAJOR bucks in damage, 3rd-degree burns from the exhaust... Whew! Did I learn a lesson or WHAT? Nowadays, I can laugh, but it took years... LOL!

Thanks oldchopperguy! I still love it even though it has war wounds! It is just a great all-round commuter-scooter. I had not thought about using graphics, but they might just do the trick... Thanks for the idea! I have started restoring the headlights, and would like to have the panels looking new again, but stickers will definitely suffice for now. This pic was taken when I first brought her home:

VERY sharp!
I've never seen one quite like it!
With the muffler, seat, floorboards and wheels, there's a lot of black on it. You can get professional quality flat (or gloss) black automotive vinyl trim that looks as good as paint from eBay vendors. If you keep the angles matching the "forward and down" factory-styling ques, the damage could be covered and still look "factory". Just be sure to sand and fill any noticeable marks first, so they don't show through the new vinyl trim...
When you get some road-time on her, please DO post about your experiences! Not being familiar with the brand, I'm thinking by the model it must be a fuel-injected 300cc. THAT is a nice setup!
Enjoy the ride, and let us know about the new scoot!

Leo, you are absolutely correct... 300cc EFI, 24hp and rides like a lounge chair on wheels! I am looking into some vinyls to cover the damage, or alternatively bare sanding and repainting the whole scooter. (Just depends on whether or not I can get some decent vinyls). Thanks for the warm welcome, and for the interest in my scooter too... Always nice to hear constructive comments. All I get from my workmates is the usual crap... "Get a real bike", "Where is the remote control"... etc.
Cheers. Alex

Just ignore the jealous, alex. They're probably wanna-bees.
What did you find out about the lens stuff? Or did you decide to just replace them?
