For that money, I would get a used Burgman400! I look at it the other way. For the price of a used, heavy, more gas hungry, unwarrantied Burgman you can get a new, lighter, fuel efficient bike with a warranty, ABS and Traction Control. You also take out of the mix the possiblility of buying someone elses self inflicted problems.

There is nobody around here who will service an Italian scooter. There are at least four places (one a Suzuki powersports dealer) that will service a Burgy! I WANT a larger scooter. I'm a big guy...5'10", 245lbs, and I wear size 11EEE boots. Small is NOT an option.

I agree with the other postings. Just because a Chinese scoot gave you headaches is no reason to give up on scootin' It just that for folks who "wrench" a water pump issue would not have even phased them. It would have been fixed in their garage on a weekend afternoon for the cost of the parts. Get a reliable machine (SYM Kymco) that isn't going to cost you a bundle and keep on riding. Thanks!

howdy, i'll comment on the size of rider and such with the bv350. i'm over 300 pounds and just now completed a 660 mile round to see an aging uncle. i basically checked the oil, and put some air in the tires and set out. i rode over 4 mountain passes, lotsa twistys and through the cold with narry a concern. got 60 mpg at up to 80 mph including over 65mph UP the passes. i have put 7500 miles on in 10 months and only had the reccomended service. that is only the first oil change and adjust stuff since new. it is more nimble and quicker than the burgy and gets better mpg. i do recognize the validity of the lack of dealers though any dealer can handle the service for the piaggio.

God and goddess...did you READ what I posted?! I WANT a larger scooter! Just like I have driven large cars (Chevy Caprice, Mercury Colony Park, Dodge Magnum) most of my life, I WANT a larger scooter!

Wow you never cease to amaze me jarlaxle. Keep posting like that and all your "helpers" will be done too. Remember this forum is for everyone and others may find themselves in the same boat as you. They might like to hear about fine Italian scooters even if you don't. Burgman isn't really all that much bigger and your giant feet might not find a home next to the enormous bump in the floor of the Suzuki...

I put nearly 10,000 miles on a Burgman it isn't huge the floorboards where your feet spend most of the time (forward position) barely fit my size 10 narrow...

I am 250 lbs, size 48/50 and wear size 12 triple E boots. The finance manager at the local Aprilia dealer is 6' 4" and weighs well over 300 lbs. We both ride Sport City 250 Maxi Scooters on the Interstate. The review by the 300+ lb Greek pretty much showed how well the BV 350 Maxi Scooter fits a large person.
You may be surprised by how much larger an Aprilia Sport City or Piaggio BV350 really are compared to what you now have. They are both considered in the Maxi Scooter class like the Burgman and Majesty. My daughters first comment about the Sport City was this is like riding high up on the back of a sport bike. The riders position puts you about at eye level with many SUV's.
The Sport City takes the same size front tire as the Burgman.
In Massachusetts (I believe that is where you mentioned that you are from) the Piaggio/Vespa dealers are in Boston (Herb Chambers), Hyannis (JMR Honda/Suzuki) and Leicester (in with Breezy Bend RV) while the Aprilia dealers are in Hyannis (JMR Honda/Suzuki) and Somerville (Riverside Motor Sports).
The Piaggio/Vespa/Aprilia all use the same Piaggio engines so any dealer that services one of the three brands should be able to take care of all the Engine/CVT services.
Was just offering another choice which you then can decide if it is or isn't for you. Personally I never thought I would be able to afford a Piaggio bike and after 18,000 miles I have no regrets riding in the city or touring on the interstate.

Also I just can't understand how one could or would pay $400 for doing a water pump job to the engine of this scooter when it can be done for less than $100 yourself and that includes total replacement of the seals and impeller if it even needed that. You can even buy a Honda seal kit for it for less than $50 and yes the Honda helix seal will fit it. Also we have a manual here that gives step by step instructions and it's not a hard job.

I fully understand wanting "B-I-G"... LOL!
I always liked the biggest vehicles I could find, and afford. Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, 500 cid Eldo, I also have a Merc Grand Marquis wagon. I always rode Harleys in the past. Bigger is DEFINITELY better if it works for you. I'm 6' 2", weigh 235 and wear size 13 DDD boots.
I never dreamed I'd be "at home" on a 150 (OR the similar sized Kymco 250)! But, arthritis got me to try scoots, and my short legs sealed the deal... LOL! But THAT is ME. I discovered for YOU that there are unlimited selections of HUGE scooters, longer and as heavy as a Harley bagger, and even more comfortable on the road!
My short, small-wheel, Grand Vista is NOT for you, but there are a LOAD of monster-maxi's out there that Are for you... pricey new, but VERY affordable used! If you want BIG, they ARE out there waiting for y'all!

Yep, spot on JR. When I began my starter clutch swap out project, I just ordered Honda Helix OEM parts and gaskets, that way I know the seals will be tight. (while I'm at it, I'm thinking of upgrading the water pump with OEM too.)

It all depends for what you need it for. 250cc scoots are fun, they can get upto highway speeds, but don't go cross country (or even cross state) with them @80mph, or they WILL break! Here in S-Florida, on the Interstate I95, people are going between 75MPH and 85MPH (with the occasional nut going faster). With a 250, that means operating it near to it's peak. A Burgman 400 is more made for the 1-2 hour highway/interstate rides, while most 250s are made for the 1-2 hour <70MPH rides, with occasional short 75+ MPH speed stretches. I got a 750cc Honda Shadow, by many would be seen as a gas hog (48MPG at 80-90MPH, and 60MPG @ 40-45MPH), but by no means would I ever trade it for a 250cc for the 200+mile rides. My EVO150 gets about the same gas mileage as my VT750 (66MPG, compared to 60MPG of my 750).
