Congrats. Kymco makes a nice product. That People GT you mentioned is a pretty fast scooter. Mine is the same engine with about 3 extra pounds and I have had it up to 86 mph and still pulling a bit and that was more than enough for me. It has a very accurate speedo so I was probably doing in the range true speed. It gets me 72-76 every tank, yours should be as good or better. Looks like you got a great deal.

But the Kymco definitely has some age. However, I don't see the peeling chrome, cracks, chips and crumbling and corrosion of electrical parts and body panels that were evident on my 150 even when it was brand-new. I'm curious how it's showing some age. Mine's two years older but except for the damage from going down in the roundabout (evil things, those) I think it still looks new. Of course, I've only driven about 2500 miles. And I keep him covered at work, despite a guy telling me I shouldn't because I should be proud and show it off and the weather won't hurt it. . And folded and un-folded those magnificent electric "mouse-ear-mirrors" dozens of times just to watch 'em flap! You're so adorable, Leo. >'Kat, wanting to see that seeing-eye dog trying to keep in front of your Kymco!

I'm happy with the deal for sure... Oh yeah! That Downtown is SHARP!I was at the dealership yesterday, and looking at some of the new Kymco models. Just having fun, because I never saw such a complete lineup of the brand! There were a couple of GTi300's, and several 50 to 700cc scoots I've never seen. Because of some problems with arthritis, I have to go with a flat-floor scooter. That about leaves Kymco, SYM and a few Italian models. Of all of them, the old Grand Vista has the best mix of features for my needs. If I was in the market for a new one though, I'd definitely check out the GTi300. If I could climb over the "hump" I'd have seriously considered one like the "Exciting" 250/500 platforms, or the Downtown. For me though, I ride about % in-town and like the handling of the lighter-weight, small-wheel scooters. For the times I need to get on the freeway, the Grand Vista seems quite adequate, so I'm a happy camper. I don't know why Kymco went with 12" wheels on their first "well-appointed touring scooter"... Their words... LOL! But it made the Grand Vista exactly what I wanted: basically, a Chinese-style 150 that will run on the freeway!Ride safe! Leo

Sylvrekat, I guess the "showing her age" is mainly the 13,000 miles that light up when I hit the ignition... LOL! The old gal really IS in fine shape. Very few scratches, and no real damage. When I get a chance, I'll have to pull the seat-pan and clean the motor up. I removed the seat just to check the carb, engine-mounts, etc. and I think THAT must be the first time the seat has been removed. The motor area is pretty dirty. The completely buried engine is about the only feature I don't like about scooters. It makes it tough to clean them, and "out of sight, out of mind" makes it easy to forget that area of maintenance. At least it's encouraging to see that these can run perfectly with a lot of "schmootz" on the engine... Just like the family car, but it's still good to know a scooter can be so reliable. I'm still getting used to being able to stay with traffic... Six seasons on the 150 made me completely forget what it was like on my old motorcycles that would run with any traffic. You get used to whatever you ride... I'm getting used to the 250 mighty fast! I like it! I may have to paint those mirrors and the tip of the nose black, and add a few whiskers to the radiator vent... As a kid, I never got the white mouse I wanted... LOL!!! Watch those roundabouts... They're good practice for NASCAR! Leo

Welcome to the 250cc club. Almost buried the needle on mine once with the GPS indicating mph because I wasn't paying attention to my speed and was just motoring along with traffic as everyone knows a 250 can't go over 75 mph. A 326 lb 250 can accelerate quite briskly compared to the 400+ lb models. The New Aprilia SVR850 Scooter would be nice. They only have clocked thm at 137 so far but... Makes the BMW look like a childs toy.

The new 4-valve fuel-injected 300's are a different animal... That big Aprila 850 is sweet! Kymco now has a 700cc too. Scooters are getting BIGGER all the time! There really IS no REPLACEMENT for DISPLACEMENT! Ride safe!Leo

My thought--so it can go 137 mph. So what? You can't really take much advantage of that excess speed.
Unless you weigh something like 500 lbs. But then you still probably wouldn't be slowing it down all that much.
At what point does "it goes so fast over 100" become pointless?

Same basic system as used on Ducati, Aprila and possibly MotoGuzzi.motorcycles. While the big scoots are sweet they are really only practical for touring and maybe embarrasing kids riding sport bikes on track days. For a daily ride the fuel injected 250 to 350 is the way to go.
