In the process of upgrading my ignition system. I need to find out what spark plug to use for my application. The PO had a Champion 7TC in there (not even sure if that's what's supposed to be in there). I was planning on upgrading to an iridium anyways.
Also, as far as the ignition goes, I'm looking at my options on Scrappy Dog's site. Should I get the Performance CDI and Performance Ignition Coil or just spend the couple of extra dollars and get the GY6 Racing CDI and Red Hot High Energy GY6 Ignition Coil? What's the difference?

Stay away from the CDIs. They cause hard starts, possible too advanced timing and running hot. Ive tried several and have since removed them all and went back to stock. As for the coil, Id get one of those.

Bang for buck wise, coils rarely make a difference unless it's a high perf engine turning insane rpm (11k or better). More bang for the buck in tuning the variator. CDI's usually have a static setting, very few of them actually have an advance curve even though they are advertised as having one. (Ali just reviewed one that actually does and that might be something you look into)... If a CDI actually has an advance curve that's correct for the scooter, it should actually start easy. That is something Ali mentioned, that the one he reviewed started easy, he tried it because he was having starter "kick backs" with his other aftermarket CDI. How much extra power he got from it is hard to say. Theoretically it should be good for some more horse power in the mid and upper range of the torque curve but the scooter would differently need to be tuned so you don't run into pre-ignition.
The only reason I'd upgrade a coil is if, one it needed to be replaced and the aftermarket was cheaper, or two, I had high rpm misfire and I knew the jetting was close to right.

The plug on the cable for the spark plug is shot, won't stay clipped on any more. I'm just going by the old saying "if it's broke, upgrade!".

And who's Ali? I'm interested in reading this review.

Much thanks, Jerry! Any idea if this exact CDI will work on my 125?

Much thanks, Jerry! Any idea if this exact CDI will work on my 125? I'm not sure, but if you PM tvnacman, the dealer selling these, he will answer all your questions!

I just got the advancing angle CDI that alleyoop recommended from tvnacman. I installed it, and it started up right away with absolutely no clutch grind (kickback). I played with the throttle and got excellent response. Took it out for a quick test ride, and I could immediately notice the difference. With the stock CDI, I had a slight bog at takeoff that no amount of carb adjustments would fix. With this CDI, no bog at all, and the entire acceleration curve was smoother, enough to definitely be noticeable. Gained 2-3mph on the top end too! I definitely would recommend this CDI!
