howdy leo,
the grand vista may seem right and are right for short trips , but you will feel cramped after an hour or so. that little bolster in the middle will come off with three bolts. you will probably be more comfortable with it removed so you can move around some.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken
Ok confused again.
All the people series had 16" wheels. From the 125 thru the 250. The 250 had a larger frame but still had 16s. The Gt300i has 16" wheels.
So when you say "high wheel" I get mixed up. All have 16"wheels. That makes them all high wheel.
Does the gti300 have 15s? If it has 16s then its a "high wheel"
Yikes I'm sooooo mixed yo
My apologies for sure! You're right, I'm wrong. For some reason, cosmetics I guess, I thought the regular "People" scooters all had 18" or larger wheels. I just checked the Kymco site, and yes, they all have 16" rims, but the new GTi300 appears to have smaller wheels. It's all in the styling it appears. My mistake. I guess I've looked at TOO many Grand Vistas with their 12" wheels... LOL! Sorry for the mix-up! The GTi300 just looks SO much better to my eye than the standard "People" format, even though as you point out, the wheels actually ARE the same size. Old age "brain-fart" on my part I guess! Bare with me, I'm getting over the hill. Leo (still looking for something to get me over the hill a little faster...) in Texas

Yeah the Gt300i has the front fender lower and the front cowl is a little bigger. I does make the wheels looks smaller. Like I said I rode that scooter and its fast and strong. Be Big, AMAC

No, looks like all those links are the GTi300. I'm thinking the elusive 300i has been replaced with the GTi300. I'll bet a few of the 300i models were made just to introduce the new engine, and now they have been replaced with the slicker GTi300. That's the only model that shows up. I think with all the interest this has stirred up, Kymco should donate a couple of those GTi300's to ItIsTheRide for the PR we've done! Right... LOL! Leo (not holding my breath for the free one) in Texas PS: Since most of these Kymcos use 16" rims, I wonder if we could run old used truck tires like we used to on our 1950's Harleys with 16" wires? ... EEEWWWW!

Spandi,
Me too! It's not all THAT important...
Well... It appears the "DOWNTOWN" is similar to the "EXCITING" which I test-rode. The EXCITING is a maxi, and feels heavy and ponderous as a Harley Electra-Glide. VERY nice, but totally not for me. The "PEOPLE GT300i" (lower pic, gold scoot) is the one I'd REALLY like, given a choice! Very much like a GY6 150, but a tad larger and heavier (but NOT a maxi at all) with 4-valve, injected 29+hp 299cc mill. 90mph and 70mpg... Nimble in the city and fast on the freeway... SWEEEEET!
The old-style "PEOPLE 300i" with Italian styling seems to no longer exist. Only the GT300i as above.
Kymco offers, and HAS offered an amazing array of highway-capable scoots, like the "GRAND VISTA/GRAND DINK" 250cc which I really like. No longer made, not a maxi, 12" wheels and super-comfortable... Also, AFFORDABLE used! The new GTi300 is so new that affordable used examples are not common.
From the MANY 250 to 500cc scoots I've checked out, it seems in general, that if it has a "hump" it's a heavy "maxi". No hump, and it's a lighter "scooter". After climbing on and riding about everything out there (including the swell Honda Reflex and Suzuki Burgman) I've decided it's got to be a FLAT-FLOOR step-through, period.
That leaves me with a used Italian model, a used Grand Vista or a used GTi300. Of these, I truly prefer the Kymco offerings; Old Grand Vista, or newer GTi300. I've located a "plethora" of Grand Vistas, and 2 GTi300's in my general price range.
The old 12"-wheel Vistas are beginning to look better and better for under $3,000. I'm not being cheap, it's just all this old geezer can afford. It's "doable" so one way or another I think soon I'll be aboard a 250cc or bigger. Let the fun begin!

Thanks Spandi!
I'll surely keep posted. I think a lot of 50 and 150 riders would like to get into something faster without manhandling a heavy "maxi". Maybe my experiences will help.
Boy, is that new SYM EVO Tarkus posted sharp! The performance rivals the BEST Italian scoots, the LOOK is as good as it gets (in flat black yet!) and the price under $4,000 new is REALLY impressive. Certainly a worthy candidate to upgrade from a 50 or 150!
It looks like it's ABSOLUTELY the ride so many of us 150 riders try SO unsuccessfully to "morph" our scoots into. A good example of why it might be best to tighten the old belt, save our pennies and try for something "factory-engineered" to be what we wanted in the first place, rather than the continual $100 here and $100 there, and NEVER-ENDING wrenching, never to ever get the old 150 to do what it was never meant to do.
What a vast assortment of scooters there is out there new. Add to that the slightly outdated nice ones available used, and you have DOZENS to choose from!
I'm currently "negotiating" on a clean 1-year-old, low-miles GTi300 from out-of-state. It's not really likely that I can get it down to where I can afford it, with shipping, but who knows? All depends on how "motivated" the seller is... LOL!
Ride safe, WHATEVER you ride!

Thanks Leo. BTW, whichever scoot you finally choose, be sure to get RED calipers. (According to the nice lady at my local Auto Zone, the Red kind add another 10-15 mph to your scoot!)

As the "Ambien Beaver" might say to Honest Abe: "AB-SOO-LOOT-LEEE"I just MIGHT have to get a little red on the rims, and wide whitewalls (even if I gotta paint 'em)... Deep down inside, there's a little bit of rat-bike in all of us! Just picture that new SYM Evo with red rims and whitewalls... SWEET! ;D Leo
