I've been riding my new Znen Q50 for a couple of weeks now, and have been pretty pleased so far. I can reach between 35-40mph on flats, and over 45mph downhill, and I can accelerate to 30-35 on most gradual uphill grades. However, I do hold up traffic when taking off from stoplights, which I feel can be dangerous. Plus as any motorcycle driver knows, you get out of trouble by using the throttle as much as you do by using the brakes, but only if the throttle is responsive enough. So I want to add a BBK.
Question is: 80cc or 100cc? Are the 100cc kits too much for the gy6 without adding a new crank? If a 100cc is safe for the engine (with proper jetting etc), does it make enough difference to choose it over the 80cc kits?
I had the scooter shop install a Keihin carb when I purchased it. I realize I'll need to up the main jet, tune in the needle and mixture, and replace the roller weights. From my research, I realize an 80 is usually about 72cc, and a 100 is usually about 83cc in reality. I'm not concerned with breaking any speed records, just want the lower to midrange torque necessary to keep up with traffic from a stop.

the 100cc is quite a bit of difference over the 80cc kits, i have done tons of 100cc cc 83cc and even 110 kits 88cc, and none have returned with bad crank bearings. Install it correctly and you'll have no issues

you will definitely gain torque, better take and acceleration

72, 75, or 80cc kits is really the max I'd go on these engines. 100cc sometimes brings problems. You probably might need to rejet the carb.
75cc is enough torque to accelerate and not leave people behind you waiting. It'll accelerate faster than normal traffic upto ~25-30MPH, then accelerate normally to ~45MPH, and slow to ~50 something MPH. 75cc is 50% more displacement than a 50cc!
Especially when you also adjust the roller weight for better acceleration.

Thanks for all the info everyone! I think I'll go ahead and do the 100cc BBK (83cc in reality). I wont have time to do it till next weekend, once I do I'll post my before and after results.

Thanks for the links millsc. I live in Las Vegas, so I'll be purchasing from Scrappy's directly. Plan on riding over to their new store on opening day (who knows, they may even have a moving day special if I'm lucky).
