I bought a 2012 TaoTao CY50-T3 in July w/ approx 7500 km, rode about 60 miles & kept dying due to adjusters on rocker arms needed reset. Took several attempts to get it just right & discovered the bolt holes were stripped on the engine casing that secures the chrome tubing plate to the head just below the valve cover. That's when I realized how soft the engine case actually is. Put another 1000 miles on it & the valves started pinging loud so I tried re-adjusting rocker arm adjusters several times again with no luck yet & started wondering if valves need re-worked. Considering tapping out all the bolt holes to cut new threads & install permanent bolts into the engine case so I can fasten the valve cover w/ nuts & lock washers to eliminate stripping any of remaining bolt holes. I'd really appreciate any thoughts on this approach & if it sounds like my guess on the valve re-work is spot on, entire bracket assy w/ rocker arms & adjusters need replaced or keep trying to adjust the rocker arm adjusters.

As far as how often, they need to be adjusted. I usually check my valves first, when my scoot has a hard time starting, and idling.

Yeah, I have about 5,5k km on my TaoTao ATM50, never done a valve adjustment! They came super tight from the factory. I left them like this, because of natural wear (over time valve clearance increases automatically. Over the course of 1000KM's the valves had the correct spacing. Now at 5,5k km I'm thinking of doing my first valve adjustment.

for thoses scoots 0.3 is good on both. as far as how often. that depends on how good the scoot was put together. some are weaker then others. and dont do it when the motor is hot. most scoots should be dine like maybe a 1 a year. maybe not even. sometimes you can get 2 yeras out of a well build scoot.

It all depends on the quality of the Valves and the Head. I have a quality head with quality valves on my BBK and I adjusted them at 1000 and I have 5000mph and I haven't had to adjust them yet. You will know when they are getting tight and that is when it is harder to start and idle drops when you come to a stop. A well tuned scoot should start in 1 or 2 short hits of the start button. The clearance on the valves won't increase over time as indicated above the clearance dissappears as the valve seats and they become too tight. Not having to adjust the valves on a Chinese 50cc for 5500 miles is not typical or recommended a lot of guys on here check them every oil change or every other oil change (1000-2000 miles). As you noticed the metal used in these engines is very soft so it is possible that you valves have "overseated" and are no longer adjustable. I would strongly consider replacing the head rather than the extensive list you are proposing. It may be less work and if you get quality parts you will end up ahead of the game.
