CVT belt

Put a brand new cvt belt on and drove about a mile or two and all the cogs stripped off the belt. I think it was just a really cheap belt. I put my old belt on and drove several miles and no problem. The place I bought the belt from told me that their was something wrong with the cvt and not the belt. I told them that I put the old belt and drove for several miles and it was fine. They told me that's because my old belt was stretched out and that's why it's not breaking. What do you think, your opinion is appreciated. Thanks

What "brand" brand new? Everything has a defect warranty you would think?

I had that happen before , when I spent a few extra $ on gates belts it never happened again . I would test the vendors knowledge of parts .

This belt was a Generic no name belt and was the only belt in my size. 16.6-792 was on original belt and 792-16.6-30 was on the new belt. The original belt looked more beefy.

i have the same size belt and have had the same problem with a cheap belt, i usually get mine from the dealer i bought the scooter from, but bought a cheap belt once and it shredded, he carries Mitsubishi belts and never had a problem with them it was the stock belt that came with my keeway, i saw racing planet USA had 793x16.8 malossi belts, i have tried the gates 788 belts, but it killed my take off and top end

You would have better luck using shoe strings for a belt than one of those cheap $8 eBay belts.

It wasn't from ebay . It came from a scooter store online. The belt was marked TONGBU VS BELT 792 16.6

I should have gone to John in the first place, but once in a while you have to test the waters. They internets prices are very tempting. I guess I got what I payed for (Garbage).

Yes, you never want to skimp on belts always try to get GATES, BANDO or Mitsubishi belts. The cheap ones can and will shred and or break unexpectedly and can cause damage in the cvt. Also may even damage your motor when the revs go through the roof. Alleyoop

Installed new belt today. Funny thing about belts is new belt of same size markings is a little bit wider and hurt the performance of the scoot. Turns out new belt
Put new belt on today and now it's running good. Funny thing, new belt and stock belt are marked as the same size but new belt is a little wider.

Messed with the variator a little bit and found that the washer that mounts against the kicker gear is flat on one side and has a taper on the other side. When mounted with the flat side to the kicker gear it lets the variator open wide enough for the wider belt.
