Have they actually started producing them? I was in contact with them about two years ago, at that time they had the same page up but were not really into production.

The buzz is that they will be available this fall. The "Husky II" engines are made by Subaru. Dead reliable, but not American. Unlike the originals, the new Cushys will have CVTs instead of a manual tranny. I have heard that they plan to offer the Eagle model too, but I have seen no pics.

WOO HOO!
I REALLY hope these do go into production!
While guys my age well-remember the Cushman, and ESPECIALLY the fabulous EAGLE... The iconic step-through "turtle-deck" really IS the quintessential Cushman. And, the Highlander evokes memories of the MANY similar, but less "daily-driver" scoots of similar design like the Doodlebug. Sal Mineo rode one of those "other" sheetmetal-sided scoots in "Rebel Without a Cause".
Such scooters were our DREAM RIDES in the 1950's. Let's face it, back then, you either rode a Harley, or a Cushman, depending on your income. Either was perfectly acceptable among all bikers. I must admit the model name "Eagle" even influenced my purchase of my Xingyue! Cheesh... Talk about "name recognition" 50 years "after the fact"...
I love the way they updated the old-timey "barrel-spring" front fork, with a truly slick spring and shock design that looks VERY period-correct, has a disk-brake, and yet is modern and should be fine up to 80 mph or better if the Subaru engine will get it there. (If done just right, I can picture these being capable of 70 mph cruise, two-up!) Though it's not very visible, the CVT tranny is also a bow to modern convenience that still will look just fine on this old-school ride; even fully-exposed on the Eagle, it will still look great.
Even though these are HEAVY (like the originals) the engine hopefully will pump out around 30+ ponies, making it competitive with any 250 clutch n' gears cycle! DOUBLE WOO HOO!!! I'd ride any one of the three! What a great trip back in time!
Sadly, very seldom do these projects ever actually get into production, like the MANY attempts to resurrect the INDIAN. Well... Indian actually DID come back in spades, JUST THIS MONTH!
Hopefully, so will the Cushman II.
I'm surely pulling for them!
Leo (hoping these WILL go into production) in Texas

I was reading a Vespa history article that said Cushmans were very prominent in Europe in the old days. Vespa had to compete for sales with Cushman in Europe for many years. Imagine riding a Cushman through Rome.

Piaggio got the idea to make motor scooters from watching our Cushman equipped GI's do just that.

Yes 400cc size engines were used many years ago in the originals. They were more or less utility engines modified for use on their Cushman scooters. Those early engines only developed around 5 hp to 9hp depending on the version of engine used. The regular scooters all used a centrifugal clutch and a jackshaft with chains and sprockets. The Mustang scooter had a two speed transmission in it and I think it still used a centrifugal clutch too.
I still remember getting to ride one all over a farm once. My mother refused to buy it for it as it cost $25.00 US for it at the time. I think she thought I would kill myself on it.
If they ever get to producing those scooters, even I would have a interest in them and maybe would get one. But I would sure love to see a new replica of the Cushman Mustang, that would be something.

Earl
The eagle is not being made but another company is building a modern version of the mustang scooter. I have gone down to the site looked at it, rode it and it was great. The mustang has a load of styling upgrades available and the cost can easily get up to 7 grand if you buy the ad ons. You can check them out at californiascooters.com

Amazing but how could they put 70 plus mpg on at 404cc engine. Those dont look like Brembo brakes.
