Rode my Tao Tao down to Ace hardware to get a plug for the hole left from removing the kickstart. As i pulled up one of the associates starts a conversation about the scoot. Asking about displacement, why it sounds bigger....blah blah. Then he tells me that he has a 50cc as well and his does right from the factory. what I ask. 90MPH he proclaims!!! I wonder how fast he thinks the cars are going when they pass him. He also invited me on a ride. I should take him up on that so I can witness this magical monster myself. And I was all but ready to give up on my 60mph dreams. Maybe there's hope after all

The speedo on most tao's only go to 80 (KMH), but yes, most of the tao's surpass that, and go as fast where the ' ' would be on the speedo. Converted that would be ~45 MPH, not 90MPH, and neither 56MPH, because these speedo's are overrated, where 1 mile per hour compares to 2kmh instead of 1.6kmh.

he didn't mention what kind of scoot he has, and I didn't ask. Maybe it's a souped up 2 stroke, but he said stock 50cc so I'm sure he was looking at an inaccurate chinometer.

I'm sure it does just that. After all, I found a 50cc scoot with 214,000 miles on it!

Lol , take him up on that ride offer and hold your gps to show him how fast he really is going . I know the old Honda raceing 50cc class motorcycles would go that and the two strokes could do a little more ....but these are spinning 13000+ rpms with 4 and5 speed gearboxes . Scooter .....cvt trans.... MPH? Would like a video with GPS in it to show .

Heck, I actually DID have a TINY "Go-Kart Scrambler" mini-bike in 1962 that would break 100 mph+ on 10" tires on 5" rims... BUT... That was "motivated" by a 10 cubic-inch (approx. 150 cc) McCulloch 2-stroke kart motor that put out over 30 hp at over 15,000 rpm. A little "different" from a 50cc scoot... Yeah, go for a ride with him and give him a "reality-check"... It'll be good for his character... LOL!Leo in Texas

No way that is possible . Even a modded 2T would have to have a racing engine to get ultra high RPMs . I think he is reading KPH instead of MPH
