I have a 50cc taotao and I have had overheating issues. After my most recent belt broke and I bought a new belt my speed had decreased to about 10 mph and over heating is a lot more faster. I was trying to look around and I took off my air filter and when I tried driving with it off it would try to stall when I gave it full gas and it seemed like it was trying to suck in to much air.
I decided that I would try taking off my exhaust pipe and see what would happen maybe something would have clogged it up or something and after running it for about 10 sec's with it off something happened and now sounds like a riding lawnmower or something.
I have gotten a new clutch, clutch springs, torque springs, Variator, variator weights, belt "which is a Bando belt made of aramid cord" I checked the transmission oil and area and that seems to not be overheating.
I am not sure if the overheating problem is coming from inside of the CVT area like maybe I need a new variator fan?? Or if its deeper inside of the engine itself like something ended up blowing or broke off.
Any suggestions would be great.

You're running your bike too lean. Increase jet size, or fuel up with BP Premium fuel. BP Premium fuel has invigorate in it, which is something that combusts better than gas. It'll balance running the bike lean. It is better to run with airfilter, and increase jet size, but if you don't want to rejet, just keep everything stock, and fuel up with BP Premium fuel.

when you took off the airbox, you made the mixture really lean. I burned up a piston that way. Lucky you didn't soft seize it...or maybe you did

You dropped the tiny ring gasket out of the exhaust. Be careful not too tighten it too much

I finally decided to open up the scooter to look inside of the cylinder and noticed that my piston had scolding along the sides of the piston. So I guess that might be the reason for the over heating and loss of top speed because of compression issues but then again I dont know for 100% that it was the compression because I have not been able to test that yet since I cant find my spark plug remover... Would that make sense though or do you think that it is probably still something else that is causing the overheating? I went ahead and bought a 80cc big bore kit from scrappydogscooters so hopefully when that comes my issue should be solved.

When I said 10 mph I meant 10 miles per hour speed wise not distances. Just got the new piston in there though but it still sounds like a lawn mower and I have already had synthetic oil in there. When I put it back together with the new piston and cylinder I sprayed some lubricant oil in there and got it going. Now I was seeing how it was handling the new piston and after about 20 sec's I turned it back off and light smoke started coming off of it. Do you think thats from the lubricant burning off? or maybe something more serious inside the engine? Would you recommend I not keep running it or keep running it to maybe burn off the oil if thats what it sounds like it might be.

Okay, apologies in advance for not helping at all. But I just can't keep quiet any longer.
renner, yours might sound like a lawnmower. Mine smells like one (before cutting the grass, that is).
I've thought that every time since first seeing your header. Now maybe my brain'll go on to other blonde-thoughts. ;D
