I have two qmb139 motors 1 that came factory in the scooter 1 that i bought for modding Heres where i get nervous. The original motor runs so good,37-40 on flat ground, nice mixture, starts in 1 turnover and is dependable. two times now, i have failed in getting the mods just right on the new qmb139. I always left the original alone ( just use the variator & clutch mods). This way, I always have a pristeen motor to put back in the scooter.
The last time I did it, I put the 16/50 gears in and the A9 cam. I have a 50 mm airsal kit on the way. Since I already have everything else in the original motor, I'm thinking of just lowering the motor, replacing the jug and piston, use the stock head and re-hang the motor. This is far less work than removing and tearing down both motors to swap mods. I'm just reluctant to mess with the perfect running one as it is my backup, however it would be just changing the cylinder. Am I being too fussy? should I just do it the easier way and save the stock jug and piston?

Put the airsal in good running one, its not that hard to switch stuff around if it doesn't work out

I would leave the good one alone and mod the other . To me I think you should enjoy a good running scooter and when or if it gets to where the engine needs rebuilding as a great excuse to install a BBK . Lighter rollers and a unsealed carb with larger jets helps it run at optimal most of the time , as too many mods can overstress the engine with normal street quality parts that are not as good as high end racing stuff .
