So i have seen a couple of different timing methods to make sure everything is in timing. 1) line the T mark on the brass looking thing with cooling fan on it up with the notch in the engine casing. i905.photobucket.com/albums/ac258/bashan_2010/GY6%20Project/DSCN3500640x480.jpg2)or lust put the piston at top dead center of the cylinder before putting everything else back on. I just want to know which method is best? or if it honestly doesnt matter?

Timing is about the relationship between crank position and valve opening and closing. It's measured in degrees of a circle. You can't determine that accurately by eyeballing the position of the piston or the position of the crank (which is hidden anyway). You have to use the marks on the flywheel. Looking at your picture you should be aligning the hash mark next to the "T" not the painted "T" itself. Then you have to adjust the camshaft forward and back a tooth at a time until it is in the right position relative to the flywheel.

A 4 stroke engine is easily explained by icpe (ickpee)
I=intake-piston on the way down,intake valve opens------------1
C=compression-piston on the way up,both valves close------2
P=power-plug fires, sends piston down both valves closed----3
E=exhaust-piston on the way up, exhaust valve opens----------4
Crankshaft rotates twice for every 1 revolution of cam The piston is at top dead center twice during 1 cycle,power, and exhaust/intake ;D so, it is possible to install the cam 180 degrees out, if the crank is not on the timing mark. you need to check both.
