Topic: VIP future champion scooter wont start « Thread Started on Feb 17, 2013, 4:09pm » www.dropbox.com/s/oiigwvsl7piu0pz/20130308_171410.jpgwww.dropbox.com/s/0y40u5ajhkgw0su/20130308_192237.jpgwww.dropbox.com/s/n488egm7q1htp1c/20130308_171546.jpgHere are the pics of my Head & piston w/rings Pic 1 one side of head www.dropbox.com/s/oiigwvsl7piu0pz/20130308_171410.jpgOther side of head www.dropbox.com/s/0y40u5ajhkgw0su/20130308_192237.jpgPiston w/rings www.dropbox.com/s/n488egm7q1htp1c/20130308_171546.jpgFirst: It work fine the other day. Next day would not start. I can't start it by kick start either. I'm going to try checking for spark. Also how could I test the en richer. I thought it was the starter but it turns the Bendix. Not sure what it could be. Any ideas. Update: Question: if my stator is bad, is there a way to start my scooter? can someone post how to test the stator correctly? i think I'm not doing it right and videos i have watched are confusing. I have tested it, think it is good, but I'm going to retest it now and post the results. Also I have a new carburetor, fuel valve, spark plug & coil. I have good compression, valves are in spec. cleaned starter out and it works great. I try to start it and turns over just will not start and the battery dies 15 Min's later from trying to start it up. Seems like the stator to me after all the trouble shooting I have done, also what about the regulator/rectifier could it be that I have tested that as well and think its good. Ordered the wrong regulator, gotta send this one back for the right one which I will probably have coming with a new stator. Can some one please help with instructions on testing the stator? So I can be 100% sure this is it, my baby been down 2 weeks now, but hey I learned a lot and didn't put any $ in a mechanics pocket! Final Update: I just spoke with the mechanic, its appears my problem is bad rings. I should of ran a real compression test, but anyways lesson learned. Next time or for anybody with a similar problem check compression and if you got to open her up. I would do it my self but he's already got it and I've never done it before, but after downloading an reading on how to do it, its not hard, but you do have to be careful you don't mess anything up. Also I was unsure of what size Big Bore Kit he installed when I bought it, he said the 100cc but these are mislabeled from what I have researched. Well I am about to order a performance muffler and carburetor, which he recommended, I asked him about upgrading. Question to anyone, If your replacing rings, what else should you also replace? Stator testing is pretty simple and its the same for all stators unless you have a DC stator but first disconnect the harness that comes out of the flywheel side of your engine and also disconnect the other 2 wire connectors which should be red/black and a striped colored one(colors can vary). Set your Multi-reader to 200 VAC to test the first wire which is your engines power wire, the red/black. Hook the positive probe from your reader to the wire and ground the negative probe to the frame. Once both securely connected, turn on your ignition and attempt to turn the engine over for a few seconds and anything above 80 VAC is passable. next wire is the other single wire which is your trigger wire,it will have a stripe being either red/white or blue/white,etc. Switch your reader to 20 VAC and test that and it should read .1 Next are the harness wires and testing them in the same pattern, Yellow should read atleast 4 VAC to 10 VAC and same for the white wire. The green is your ground but check the harness before and after its connected to ensure the ground wire has a secure connection. Thats all thats to it for stator testing.

If you replace your rings then you need to replace both head and base gaskets also.

Thanks inkyben, I've got my scoot back been riding for a week. The mechanic told me take it easy, so I'm breaking it in slow already put 200 miles on it, I got a 100 to go. Yesterday I checked my valve clearance and it was in: .008 Ex: .007 I have adjusted them to In: .004 & Ex: .005. I did notice a slight vibrating noise, very very low sound when I rev'd up the engine before I adjusted the valve's. I still hear it after adjusting, I read something earlier stating it maybe the valve clearance needs adjusting, but I've done this. Any idea's? I post a video tomorrow if I can capture the sound. Also I noticed it is a little slow on take off and pickup, any idea's?
