Today I installed her new tail lamp, checked valve lash, then realized I needed to put the battery on a charge overnight because I left the key on. Poor Laika, the guy who owned her before me mistreated her. She's a TaoTao ATM50 in a beautifully rat-rod'ish scuffed black. Solid little motor in there, poor thing. Oh, and hi... I'm new.

Pulled the rear tire 3400 miles and change and switched it with the spare,,, still in pretty good shape so it's a real decent spare and a freshy on the rear,,, lite sand and painted rear hub face,,, battery strap broke and a little acid came out of the drain and splashed on the hub face,,, redid the battery strap with a Velcro strap with eyes to go over the original strap hooks,,, worked like a charm,,, I did notice the rubber on the Stella is real live crap with a Capitol C ,,, hopefully I can find some viton based replacements so I can put this psycho circus to bed once and for all,,, gotta love a scooter that carries a spare tire with rim,,,,

Today I brought my 2004 Honda Reflex from the storage rental space to the garage at home so I can start the work of getting this scooter with 34,100 + miles on it up and running. Bought some gaskets a while back, but I don't remember if the stator cover gasket was one of them. I'll hunt for the gaskets in the morning. If I don't have it with the rest of the gaskets, then I'll just have to order one. It looks pitiful after having spent a couple years or so outside under a tarp, partially disassembled then another year in storage. I had sold it to my brother then bought it back when he couldn't keep it in running shape for lack of space, time, storage and $$. (that, and the patience and ambition to follow through after taking stuff apart) Love my bro ... but &

Gave "Minnie Mouse" an oil-change... A fresh drink of good old 15W-40 Diesel. Checked the water, aired up the tires and took her for a romp down the freeway. Being mostly a "city rider" I almost forgot how much fun it is to get out of the city for a few miles and let the old "Mouse" stretch her legs for 20 mles to the next town, at 75 mph or so.
8 years old, 15K miles on the clock, and still doesn't use a drop of oil or water. I am completely sold on Kymco quality. These old Taiwanese water-buffalos are dang-near bullet-proof. In my opinion, a GREAT buy used, for the 150 rider wanting a major increase in performance without hassling with L-O-N-G wheelbase, heavy highway scooters. These old Grandvista/Grand Dink/Bet n' Win carbureted dinosaurs are like having a Chinese 150 that will keep up with frisky traffic, and do so as reliably as the family car... The NEW ones from Kymco and SYM must REALLY be something else!
Ride safe, and keep that oil clean...

Got around to emptying the oil from my Reflex so I can get the stator cover off. Kind of odd, but the service manual didn't give the usual full instructions on what to remove to get at the stator. Looking at pictures and diagrams in the service manual however gave a better idea of what needs to be removed first.
But I'm having trouble getting it off. It will wiggle some but acts like it is hung up on something. All appropriate fasteners have been removed. There are a couple tabs where one may pry a little to get it to break free. But they are at the top & bottom toward the rear and none that I can see toward the front to pry a little to get it to come away evenly. And that, I think is where my problem is. It seems to be able to rock with the two guide dowel pins as the pivot point. I will just have to be patient I guess and keep at it... I don't want to stick anything between the mating faces and risk damage.
Oh, and looking through my parts boxes, I see that I don't have the gasket for the stator cover so that will be ordered pretty soon.
So failing to get the cover off, I decided to finish a weekend project to surprise the GF so she won't think I'm a complete lazy bum when she gets back from a trip to Vegas with a niece and nephew. Funny how I can get more done when she is out of my hair.

OK, like I said ... patience & persistence. It payed off. I got the stator cover off but the rubber grommet for the stator wires is stuck to the rubber grommet for the ignition pulse wires. I'll probably end up using a fresh, sharp exacto blade and cut them apart with a nice clean cut.
After all, they've been together for a very long time through numerous heating/cooling cycles and have just kind of melded together. Trying to pull them apart may just cause an irregular tear... not good. Also, I ordered 2 stator cover gaskets... just in case.
Now to the auto parts store for stuff to soften the old gaskets for safe removal using plastic tools so as to not damage the aluminum surfaces. Tomorrow to the battery store for a new battery to put on the battery tender while I wait for the gaskets to arrive. (guessing about a week or so)
Maybe I'll polish this cover later this week while I have it off... and redo the swing arm too like it was done once before..
This thing is for sure going to need new tires, But I'll wait to get it running first. No big hurry since I have another Reflex and Silverwing that I can ride.

I was going to post that I drove my scoot to work today. Instead, it decided to rain, on the first of five supposedly rain-free days. grrr. Sigh.
Maybe I can make that post tom....

I rode yesterday. Took the second to last turn to home and power faulted. Kept feeling something weird with the power. Almost to the last turn and ran out of fuel. Was able to coast the remaining block into the driveway!!!! Must have been going 5mph the last few feet, hahahaha

On my own scoot, I charged the battery and warmed up the engine. then I shut it off. Weeee! hahaha! On another scooter I recently did a top end rebuild, checked the oil pump, gave it a new variator, belt, and fuel filter, cleaned the carb, adjusted the valves, welded a broken muffler bracket, and will put on a new clutch this weekend. That was my first real top end rebuild and I have my fingers crossed that I did everything right. (I feel almost like a real scooter mechanic now!) It smokes a little but I hear that might just be the rings seating. I sure hope so, because I guaranteed the rebuild and I'd hate to have to redo it.

It was totaled last wed. When the scoot and i got rear ended. I am slowly recovering, but this riding season is over for me You gotta watch your 6 and be ready to find a hole when you stop. I saw the last one that was about to do that to me, laid on the throttle and pulled to the right. Still got a nasty bruise when they caught my cane strapped to the side of the bike and drove it forward into my thigh as they passed by. I got a folding cane and no longer strap anything to the side of the bike that can impale me if a tailgater rear ends the bike. I am much more paranoid about people behind me now. Feel your pain especially since the best part of the season is coming up as the summer heat starts to dissipate over the next month. Hopefully all you injuries are just cosmetic and only skin deep. Heal quickly!

I'm SO sorry! The missus and my prayers are with you! Get well fast, and you'll be back riding again soon. Hopefully the offender didn't get away clean, and had insurance.
Also, did you have that swell trailer attached at the time? If so, you'll probably need to make a new one. At least you know how!
Do what the docs say, get well and keep on the site with your saddle-pals!
