Hi all,
First off, I didn't bother introducing myself as I was member, albeit a new member on the other forum.
Second, the lack of information on engine swaps/upgrades for my particular model haven't revealed much in Canada which, to me, is quite disturbing. Then again, this is not a popular bike. Onto my questions...
I have a 2008 Aprilia Scarabeo 50 4T which is completely stock. It is my understanding that the frame will accept a 125cc engine.
If I was to put a 125 in, what am I looking at cost wise (ballpark). More importantly, is it possible? Is it as simple as swapping the engine or will other components like brakes and ignition need to be upgraded as well? Will I be spending so much that I might as well buy a new bike?
I really like this bike. My goal is more bottom-end for those hills and the ability to 'get out of trouble' should the need arise.
I just want to get your thoughts on whether or not I am out to lunch before I go chat with the local mechanic.
Thanks for your time. Ken

You would be better off to get a 80cc BBK instead and also lighter roller weights . Unsure on your Aprilia but the Chinese scoots you can not simply bolt on a 125 or 150 engine on a scoot that came with a 50cc

Well apparently, from what little information I have found, it is supposed to accept a 125. I have checked out the Aprilia forum but they don't seem to know either.
I will chat with the dealer next week and see if there is anything they can do.
Thanks all. Ken

Ken Micah Shoemaker is the AF1 Mechanic who specializes in the Vespa scooters and would probably be the best resource there. He is doing some extreme mods and can get 100+ reliable mph from the 250's. May be doing a screaming turbo mod shortly.
