When you didnt have the coil bolted down it didnt have a ground and it being the higher voltage one makes it worse it will shoot all the voltage back threw the wiring and blow out the CDI.

If his COIL has two wire going to it the coil is not a ground point. One of the two wires is ground. The other thing to look for since you were messing near the valve cover is maybe you pulled accidently pulled the GROUND WIRE from the motor to the frame off. Alleyoop

I wish it were that simple, but no. Wires, connectors and grounds all check out ok.

Update: I got an orange cdi from the local shop (the same one I tried before, and it did,nt work) i figured cause i had the extra wire on it for the speed sensor. since disconnected) anyway, I asked for another& he had an old used one hanging around. Guess what? the used one works! It doesnt seem to be rev limited because it revs high. But it takes too long. I put the 20mm carb with an jet in, and drilled 6 3/8 " holes in the bottom of the airbox. still too slow to rev to speed. any ideas? I've already removed the 6 gram sliders, and put in the 5's
