A performance clutch does not engage until you build up more rpms than a stock one. This gives you quicker take-off since the engine is revving a little higher. No other modifications are needed, but its a good idea to get a performance clutch bell to go with it. Usually you can find the two together.
One downside, if you find yourself in stop-and-go traffic a lot, it makes for a lurch-y movement when you are just trying to crawl along. I dont mind it ;D

Save yourself money and just get stronger Clutch Arm Springs they have them in 1000, 1500 and 2000 rated springs. A performance clutch is just that a regular Clutch with just stronger springs. Some tote that they are lighter but not by very much as a matter of fact some are even heavier. If you intend to get a performance Clutch GET ONE that has about 1 inch of more pad material on the pads which will help more pad grabbing the bell LESS SLIPPING. Alleyoop

Good performance clutches hardly resemble a factory clutch...
I put stronger springs in my factory clutch and guess what? it broke very soon after, along with many other folks' Ive read about on the forums.

I had a stock clutch start to disintegrate on me after only 3000 miles. Good thing I caught early when only metal brackets next to the shoes peeled off a little bit. And all that using stock contra and clutch-springs.

I put NCY clutches in my 50 and 150 and didn't have any problems with them. I just got the standard upgrade one you get with a CVT kit, but they sell more aggressive ones too. I agree with alley that some of them dont have much more pad on them than stock, so look for one with the largest friction pads you can. When my clutch broke after putting in tighter springs, i was not surprised to see that the arms were made of 'pot metal' which would be likened to 'hot dogs' of the metal world. I'm sure a decent HP clutch does a little better than that... This is a gerneric mystery performance clutch from a popular online store - and it does look like a regular clutch with tighter springs in it. The friction pads on this one are pretty big though. These are a couple high end performance clutches - as you can see, there is definitly a lot more to these.

Ok ordered a clutch of ebay through a US seller,,, guess would be stock clutch also ordered new variator, why the variator, well trying to get nut off I broke the fins..Why in the hel are these nuts hard to get off, the one on the clutch I had to use a nut splitter and small chisel to get it off now this one on the stator doesn't want to come off..I haven't rounded the nuts edges off for trying but just cant get it to budge...What now sure am leary about taking the nut splitter and chisel to this nut for fear of damage to crankshaft or motor casing..
