Hello All, A local auction house near me is currently having a bunch of online auctions and one of the items has me really interested. It is a 1976 Yamaha Champ. I know very little about it and they don't even know if it runs. I do believe it is 72cc's though. The current bid is $60 so I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or knowledge to share. What would be a good price to bid? or should I stay away from this project? If I did it correctly, the link below should show you the scooter. Any thoughts would be really appreciated. --Jim auctions.alderferauction.com//Full//845/50456845.jpg

The champ is a trail bike. Good for the dirt not the road.

Ok...that would explain the knobby tires I am still rather interested in it as a project (not that I need another one). Any thoughts on what is a good bidding price? Also...I am wondering how hard it would be to find parts for it. --Jim

I would see about sourcing that busted headlight first. A non-running Honda CT70 (which is easy to source parts for...) is the only thing similar I have seen and I have seen them priced from $200 to around $600. Not sure how readily available parts are for that so it may be worth less...

What I see:
Assuming if you want running, not a show bike:
Broken headlight bucket -- motorcycle side mount headlights and mounts are available, fairly cheap from Jireh Cycles.
Front turn signal also broken, but still there. Again you can get cheap parts to replace with.
Not clutch lever, gear shifter exists and is not broken. Will have a semi-automatic transmission.
The tires are semi-knobby street tires.
Has passenger pegs -- it is designed for two.
At the end you can see the rear turn signal, and a license plate.
It can be registered for the street, and would be a fun shopping cart.

well the biding now up to $200 so I think I will pass. It is tempting though.
