Fortunately, most scoots don't cruise at 550 knots.

Even at 20 mph a bird the size of a fat duck can put the hurt on you. At 45 mph their bills can cut through aluminum sheething, metal cooling grills and radiators.

Remember that on approach the big jets are slowing down to a bit over 100 mph which is when many bird strikes occur.
