Saw a post somewhere that said the little reducer tube in the stock airbox is a speed restrictor. I think its a necessary part to keep the AF mix right and has nothing to do with speed increase removing it. No different than the holed cap on the intake of the airbox. Technically everything on a stock scoot is a restrictor. The more you add in and add out increases power and speed but removing the snorkle on a stock scoot will only lean it out losing power?

You are correct. But yes it is a speed restricter of sorts. Pull it off, put a unifilter on it and then a bigger jet in the carb and you should go faster. Given that the scooters come from the factory running on the lean side it would be a poorchoice to just remove it.

Best thing is to take the airbox off and off of the carb and buy the one scrappydog has its the filter with a jet of your choice Im jetting the filter and an # jet it comes as a set and you can pick which jet you want Its in the 50cc performance section about half wat down the page

When I first got my scooter, it had the piece in the pic along with a 4 hole nozzle on the outside. My last 2 engines that I bought brand new, had neither. I can't put a nozzle on it or it won't run right. 78 jet, 72cc times two engines. My airboxes, on the last two engines, dont bolt up right, it runs GREAT for pretty much no mods. Our airboxes are different-- yours looks like my first one... Close but not exact-- to my last two.
I may be a tad lean but oh well.

Scrappydogscooters filters are junk, check out my sparkles build thread for a picture that explains it all.

Take it off,,the scoot might not even run past half throttle...get a UNI and stick it in that airbox,,mod the box so it hooks up tight,,then drill a few holes and upjet,,you will solve most of your last 80% throttle being dead.

I want to know more about putting a uni filter inside the airbox. Got any pics? if not please describe this. ;D

[replyingto=salracer]sailracer[/replyingto]Ill take some pics later,,my uni just fit perfectly inside,,It was a tight fit right down into the hole from the inlet hose,,when I place my lid on it pushes down on the uni maybe an inch(it gets a little smushed no big deal) and it stays right in place,,Im sure every air box would be a little different,,also the size of the collar on the UNI would need to fit tight into the hole.Holes must be drilled also for the UNI to work at its fullest potential. It works great for now,,eventually I want to cut out the top of the airbox and figure out a clamp for the base of the UNI,,i think it would look cool sticking out the top of the airbox huh??

[replyingto=salracer]sailracer[/replyingto]Yes of coarse,,its all up jetted because it wouldn't run with the UNI on the mid to top end.The UNI has no restriction at all,,my stock filter really did have quite a bit.
