I used a synthetic when I had my 150. Don't remember the weight maybe I'll go check. Be super careful tightening the drain bolt on the final drive its very easy to strip. I'll go look at the oil now brb

The final drive bolt is the only plug ie the only drain plug I 'll be taking off and putting back on, right?

Valvoline full synthetic 75- . Anything thicker will effect performance unless it calls for it.

Just use any weight gear oil. You don,t really need to change it often.unlike motor oil, it sees no combustion by-products. a good gear oil in the gearbox should last the life of the scooter.

If you use synthetic in the engine put some good stuff in the gears too,,mobile makes one also,,it aint cheap though...I just use the walmart semi synthetic ,,oils are all made by the same few companies,Exxon Mobil, Shell,Penzoil,Quakerstate. If I remember you have over 3K miles on that gear oil,,let us know how it looks when it comes out. Thanks Tom This vid will help you a bit...

Any synthetic gear oil 75/ should be good. A bottle will last you at least a few gear oil changes. 75/140 is too thick and is mostly used where shear strength for higher impact vehicles like trucks or heavy stress acceleration like race cars.

Gear oil usually lasts for 3k miles. Though the first oil change should be done before 300 miles, as the gears let go of a lot of metal flakes in the beginning. I use 75W90 or 80W90 gear oil. 80W140 is not better oil, it just has more additives in the oil; and since you change the oil not because of pollution, like what happens to engine oil; but you change it because of wear; it's better to get the first number up as high as possible (80) for better lubrication and longer oil consistency, and the second number as low as possible ( ) for less additives, and less resistance, and better MPG. The gearbox is pretty much a closed compartment, unlike the engine, so gear oil additives can last for years, if not a decade, without wearing out the additives; unlike an engine that constantly sucks in oxygen, and blows out carbon, heats up high temps, and sometimes allows humidity/water damp to enter into the engine compartment via all the cracks and nooks of the moving parts. 85W140 is better for heavier bikes like 250's. For a 150, the 80W90 is good enough. For a 50cc the 75W90 might be better, but should make almost no significant performance improvement. A bottle of gear oil costs you $6 $15 per bottle, and is good for ~2-3 oilchanges, or ~10k miles!

You go to any cycle place and everything will cost you a lot more. For oils go to an auto parts store. Alleyoop
