Well, that is a good tip. A lot of dump trucks in Missouri, don't cover their loads. I ride a Bali scooter with a cn250 engine. When riding in town, speed limit is 25 to 35 MPH.... so I wear my helmet and blue jeans, long sleeve shirt, gloves, and boot. But on the highway I always grab my leather jacket. I also have full coverage insurance that will help replace scooter cost and up to $50,000 if injured. It is only $18 per month for full coverage insurance on the Bali 250. In town riding is a lot of stopping for stop signs. Riding on the highway is more dangerous, because one could have a blowout, a car could swerve into your lane, tailgaters could be anxious to pass and pass in unsafe areas. A lot more to watch out for on the highway.

Ouch. did you get an opportunity to speak with the truck driver? Not yet. The state patrol found the truck and let me know what the name of the company is. I plan on calling them in the morning. I hope they wrote him for not securing the load or as its called in NJ -Loading so as to spill. That will prove you are telling the truth when you call them. You might also mention that you are under a doctor's care from the incident.
(I'm not advocating blackmail, just play a little hardball and they may ask you to sign a release and at the same time pay for your ride's damage. That way, you win and they think they won too, by avoiding a medical lawsuit)

Do we realize this is a Zombie Thread from 2013?
On the jacket I went down at about 40 mph a little over a month ago in the Spring of 2015 and my Mesh Riding Jacket with CE3 Armor prevented any upper body injury and survived unscathed aside from a few light smears of asphalt. The full face helmet is scratched up enough to show I would have had serious head/facial injuries and the gloves showed enough grinding on the knuckle armor that it would have taken my hands down to the bone had I not been wearing them while the boots slid and got scuffed a bit I had no foot injuries. The jeans did absolutely nothing to save my knees which still are swollen and bruised but at least no longer from the top of the boots to the upper inner thigh. Riding pants with knee armor would have prevented that. Rags and wallet in back and side pockets actually helped prevent any hip injuries or harm to the buttocks so armored riding pants are going to be added to my normal riding ensemble once I heal up a little better.
Bottom line is that even at city speeds on a 50cc bike without the appropriate riding gear if you go down you can get injuries that will stay with you for a week or months to potentially the rest of your life which without the gear may end even in a minor event before the accident is completely over.

Always use the gear, all the time. I am currently waiting on my riding pants (i have a pcx 150 and my wife has a 85cc taotao zummer that i upgraded.
No matter the distance, the speed you will be driving, anything. It always is smart to go through the process of gearing up and getting ready 15 min before you leave.
My roommate went out to pick up a 6 pack 4 blocks away from my old house a year ago.. he put nothing on, i told him ide drive him but he said dont worry. 4 hours later after he left i got a call from the hospital saying that my friend was in a coma going through facial reconstructive surgery after getting hit by a car that jumped a red light.
Does not look the same, never leaves the hoise without gearing up, and that 4 block gearlessdrivd cost him 25 grand at the hospital, even with insurance.
Long story short, ide rather be hot and sweaty and have my co workers call me the night rider when i roll up or leave work on the scoot covered in gear and be safe than get messed up cause i just wanted to go and come back quickly.
Gear up, be safe, have fun riders

There's another thread that's heating up because one member refuses to wear any gear,,,I've gone down at speed it ain't pretty and it ain't fun,, You should come drive around in florida in miami dade county or broward county... ide say 80%of 50 cc riders down here dont wear anything besides regular sunglasses, most have ear buds in as well... the 20 %left over have a helmet and thats it. Lots of 150s as well with no gear... but not 80 % Its just sad when ever i roll up in my zummer that looks like a 50 cc... its an though, and people tease you or make fun and . I know that the better person will ignore and wear the right gear and be safe regardless of the comments and looks. But i think it outs out the wrong message to people who want scooters but not yet have them, then finally get one and they dont want to look "like there taking there 30mph bike too seriously" Screw the envious haters. Be safe and enjoy the ride.

There's another thread that's heating up because one member refuses to wear any gear,,,I've gone down at speed it ain't pretty and it ain't fun,, Same here, though I was lucky. Went down years ago riding into Salt Lake City in a rainstorm. Got caught in cross winds when two semis passed me drafting one behind the other, ended up with a tank slapper. I let go and trusted my gear rather than get floored by my bike trying to recover. The rain was the lucky part, I slid across the freeway into the median, which was muddy so I kept sliding. Took me 5 minutes to get my helmet off due to mud being stuffed in it by the slide, but my gear saved me from any road rash or head trauma. ATGATT!!!
