I've taken quite good care of my Genuine R50. I got the 500 mil maintenance. Now I'm pushing 1500 miles. My R50 has started making a strange noise which sounds like a medium-loud paper shredder when I hit the throttle. I know I need a new battery for one thing. However this doesn't seem related. At first I thought it was the rear brake but it doesn't seem to be. I've changed the gear oil; I've change the brake fluid; I've topped off the engine oil. I have no idea what the deal is. Again if I'm going slow or coasting I don't hear the noise, which makes me think it has something to do with the transmission, but disclaimer I know next to nothing about mechanics. If anyone is able to offer some insight on this issue I would appreciate it. It's a nice scooter and I wouldn't want to cause permanent damage on the engine, considering I've already had a sub-2000 mile Honda stolen off my property quite recently.

I would take the crank case off and see the condition of the belt + start it up and ride slowly to see where the noise is coming from. Since it appears to have something to do with the tranny, well maybe it needs a new belt..

Does the crank case require dissembling the rear wheel structure? That looks intense.
I'm considering taking it into shop for a couple things including new tires. This may be my best bet.

I think he means the CVT cover. If I owned a Genuine scooter and had any issue I would take it to the dealer for warranty repair... It is new and still under the 2 year warranty right. CVT's do make noise what is normal is hard to say with out hearing a normal and yours. Take it in. Do not open the crank case

Only thing i can think of in the cvt would be something wroñg withe the clutch. Maybe broken pad making noise on contact with the bell. Does it make tje noise if moving only or does it also do it whil3 sitting still and giving it gas.

I guess I need a paper shredder, because I'm having a hard time imagining that sound coming from a scooter. I'd rip the CVT cover off like mentioned above. That is a 2-stroke, right?
Taking the CVT cover off is simple. Nothing pops out at you like a Jack-in-the-box either. No rear tire removal required. Once the cover is off, you're going to need an impact wrench of some sort, or a way to stop both pulleys that the belt rides on, from moving. Probably not going to gain a whole lot of info, just by just taking the cover off. You will, sooner or later, need to inspect/replace the belt...rollers..v-guides/slides.
It's mandatory, IMO.
