hi guys, i just bought another scooter, the owner only gave me the expired registration and bill of sale not title.(she lost it). is there a chance i can register it under my name? im going to dvm, i just wanna know your inputs about this. thank you!  |

different states, different rules
here in PA, they will physically check your VIN, if its a good title
etc. they will register it

you may need to have her with you at the DMV they can request for a lost title replacement and do the transfer at the same time

There should be a form you both fill out and sign to get you a new title.

ok, here's the truth... the real owner gave the scooter to her friend michelle and said she doesn't have anything to do with it anymore, she just gave her the expired registration without the title, now michelle sold it to me. btw the real owner is now in Scotland.(no contacts)
can i apply for lost title in her behalf?

Contact you local DMV and ask them the procedure to get a lost title ,as any advise we can give may not be correct for your state

In New York , no title no transaction period . With one exception , its a seized vechle sold by shreiff or marchal .

Here in NM you will have to claim abandoned vehicle and have the state police provide you with a report stating it is not stolen. Then the MVD will "attempt" to contact the "current" owner by mail. They will wait an indeterminate amount of time and then when no one claims ownership a title will be issued in your name the whole process sucks and is discouraged by the 2 MVD workers I know they both say don't buy a vehicle with out a title! Hope you didn't pay much and that your patient... |

Arizona, you have to file for an abandoned title in this situation. You must get a mvr (motor vehicle report) and send the last registered owner a letter stating intent and all the vehicle info. They may reply with a notarized letter stating they want nothing to do with it and whoever currently has the vehicle can register it. They may also just ignore the letter and it will be at least 3 weeks to get the title or they can deny the letter and you can take it unopened to the DMV to get things done

In Florida the owner of title had to apply for a replacement title and pay the $25 fee before selling the bike to someone else. Here it would be just scrap metal now until the owner of title applied for a replacement title, payed the $25 and then fillied out the transfer of title block listed on the back of the replacement title.

in georgia, i'm having to go through the same deal with my cfmoto. fortunately i can get a "bonded" title. gonna b a little pricey $125, but for what i paid for it, it's well worth it. the only thing is i"m not sure where the NHTSA certification label is affixed to the scoot. anyone have any ideas on where to look on a 2009 fashion 250? btw i have original owners florida registration which is good through the nineteenth of this month. no way to contact original owner though....
