I was wondering if the motor they use in the SYM Taiwan scoots is better quality than the chinese motors also,,and where I could acquire one in the future for a decent price,,I think that would be a great upgrade for a Taotao or other Chinese scoot.

[replyingto=domindart]domindart[/replyingto]I was gonna get a Tomos Nitro 150,,the local Yamaha shop here had a few on sale for $999,,at that time I had no idea they where a SYM as a newb,,I guess I should have jumped on it but by the time I was ready they only had the 50cc left,,so i went with a Taotao,,so far I am happy,,also I called Tomos and was thinking of becoming a dealer,,they where very nice and said that I could sell out of my 12x24 garage,,and they would send me four scoots,,but I need to get my business license first. He also said they are SYM and the qulity of Tomos is far superior to that of Taotao. Now Im on a mission to see how long this Taotao can last if upgraded and maintained properly,,but I do want to stick a SYM longcase motor in it eventually,,maybe next year if i can find one shipped pretty cheap.
Wow,,they have 4 valves instead of two,, that's pretty good stuff,,just like Honda and all the other Japanese manufactures.

They list the GY6-B motors too, up to 232cc.... that would be pretty sweet to haul my fat azz at a good clip! But they are $$$$

Call a local dealer using the dealer locator on the sym website. Be warned you will have sticker shock. Probably more economical to buy the whole scooter. Or look for a wrecked one in your area. I always have this issue spend cash on the premium bike or build what I want as cheap as possible .... Good luck!

Tom It was my girlfriend and I who bought the last blue and black colored Tomos Nitro 150's from Flemington Yamaha. I have 500 miles on mine, she has 150 on hers. We originally were looking the at Kymco People 300's, but for the price that we got the Tomos, we changed our requirements. I can do 60 MPH on RT31 from Flemington to Clinton without too much trouble, and excellent stability. I wouldn't take it out on RT78, but then, I wouldn't any two wheeler on this road, but that's just me.
