Oh you have opened a can o' worms now... They are all going to tell you to put tractor oil in there but before they do I will recommend a 10W40 motorcycle oil. I used to use Castrol it is available at most auto parts stores and if you change it often like you should it works fine. For your gearbox it has been too long since I changed any and I forget the weight... Choose wisely.

I was going to run Mobil 1 10w-40 synthetic for engine but I think 75w- is to heavy for the trans, I wonder if ATF would work...

I'm pretty sure the 75w90 is close to right I wouldn't run ATF...
Is the Mobile 1 formulated for air cooled motorcycle engines?

I'm unsure, I just don't want to run to think of a gear oil I heard you kind of want the gear oil to be thin, so everything functions correctly. I just need to know exactly which weight I need for both engine and trans oils.

75/ sounds right to me and for the engine 10 w 30 regular,as if you mix any amount left over,if you did put the synthetic with good ol oil with it,it will foam up and that cant be a good thing,I just drained out of a customers scooter and it was ( 2 full quarts were in it),the owner obviously does not know how to read a dip stick,or the owner is a dip stick....lol Jay

Gear oil should not be thin. The 75 W is roughly the same as 10 W 40...

For a 50cc 75W90 or 80W90 is good for the transmission. For a 150cc and up, you can actually increase the viscosity, though it's not really necessary. For the engine 10W40 is your stock oil. A 50cc air cooled can go from 10W30 to 10W40 in 70 degrees weather. I've been running my 50cc and 150cc with a mix of 10W30 and 15W40 oil. It seems the optimum mixture for me. I'm running in 80- degrees weather though.

Guys your making a mountain out of a mole hill, 10W40 for you crankcase all year round and 75w- or 80w- trans oil. If you live in Freezing cold area then you want to go THINNER with the oils. If you live in HOT AREA you want to go heavier. This is not rocket science just get good brand oils and change the crankcase oil at least every 1000 miles and your crankcase oil every 2000 miles.
