Hello everyone, I'm in the market for ways to do as the title says. I'm not sure what springs or anything I would need to accomplish atleast a little more torque. Going 5mph uphill can't be good on the scoot and it's scary as ..lol. Anyways, I've got $50 to spare and was wondering what you guys and gals suggest. Thank you -Tim

Already got one of those on the way, Thank you though ;D I was more curious about the clutch springs and torque springs. I over read about rollers and sliders and the like and was curious about those things as well and which ones would be better, I'm not sure as far as the rpm ratings on them. Is higher better or lower? Thanks again -Tim

Hi Tim Pleased to meet you You will have to tune the weights to your riding situation. If you are constantly riding on hills, you will want a lighter weight. If you are on flat most of the time you will want a heavier weight. I use one of these to help determine the proper weights for scoots with the qmb 139 engine(4 stroke 50 cc) www.scooterworks.com/prima-roller-weight-tuning-kit--16x13--3g-to-14g--products-1935.php#.Ua0BldLrzIwOnce i find the proper weight i go with quality rollers or sliders as the tuning kit ones are not for every day use only tuning Dr Pulleys or NYC are my recommendation I prefer sliders over rollers Stronger torque and clutch springs will also help up hill travel Take care and ride safely Yours Hank

Does having stronger torque and clutch springs affect your top end?

Does having stronger torque and clutch springs affect your top end? Clutch springs don't. I think Torque springs will effect your acceleration, but I don't know much on those.

Hello hank Thanks for all the info! Now I've got a problem with my scoot. I took it for a trip to town (roughly 20 minute round trip) and now the little bugger won't run when I give it gas but idles fine for awhile then dies as well Not sure what the problem would be because it ran fine the whole trip. It was hours after that it started this. As of now there are no mods and I purchased new two weeks ago. EDIT: After letting it sit for the past 2 hours or so it seems to be running fine..Any ideas on what might have caused it to act up and then work fine? I would hate to take it out and get stuck because it got temperamental again.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I had a friend suggest running some kind of product called "seafoam" through it. Would that be wise? They have LOTS of experience with carbs, just not scoots.
Thanks -Tim

[replyingto=z0m8i3]Z0M8I3[/replyingto]Seafoam FTW!
You may get lower speeds due to less combustion properties, but it's the best gasoline treatment/all purpose cleaner/lubricant I know of.
I use it like WD-40, or as a cleaner too. It's how I got my rear tire off, by just putting some of it on the bolt, then the tire came right off when before it wouldn't come off no matter how hard I tried. (I was out of WD-40 and used it as a last resort - and it worked!)

OK, I don't have the seafoam yet but I've been out tinkering and I thought I would try to start the scoot. It was a little rough at first being a cold start even though it's 74 out. Once running the same problem persists, idles fine but giving it throttle kills it. Any ideashatnwould have caused it to act like this after my ride yesterday? Everything was fine yesterday till after trying to start it an hour after returning home. The little fuel filter isn't clogged and everything seems in place. I'm confused about what got this acting up. Should I go ahead and try rebuilding the carb right off the bat? Thanks again and please have patience, I've not had experience working with carbs yet. -Tim

Check your valves first. Seems like typical valves too tight situation.

Check your valves first. Seems like typical valves too tight situation. I checked the valves and they were not set to what I've read is the typical .003/.004 so I set the respectively and there was a light ticking. I reset them both to .003 and still ticking. I went down to .0025 and stopped there so far but still ticking. Should I keep going lower until there is no ticking? I'm afraid of ruining it and am at a loss. It would be worth noting that they were WAY lower than .003 because I couldn't even fit the .003 feeler in there in the beginning. I forgot to check the original settings and got ahead of myself..lesson learned.

I'm relieved to know a little tick is ok. I think I will go back to the .003 and .004 and see how it does.
