whats up everybody my name is james but everyone on the interwebs and some in the real world know me as Kaymo. someone once joked and said "King Kaymo has all the answers" and i couldnt argue with him so it stuck.
I am a mechanic, fabricator and customizer. I know my way around most things with a motor and can fix things almost as much as i can break things haha. I can weld, fiberglass, bodywork etc, as well as engine stuff, porting and performance mods. I love to build things from junk or older stuff.
I am a little hard on my machines, i expect them to perform at 100% even under abuse. For that reason I am a die hard honda fanatic. I like some chinese stuff because for the most part they copied the best- honda. ive got several machines with honda cub 50 clone engines, including a street legal mini chopper.
I have had a few scoots, my first was a benelli andretti 150xt, but right now have a Honda Elite 80 for DD and several china projects i am going to be putting back together, as well as a couple more hondas (2004 metro2, 86 spree, 1979 pedal moped). i love the elite because its light, handles great, and packs a punch for its size. I maxxed out the speedometer today at 60 at one point, and can do 55 on a flat. thats with stock intake filter and exhaust.
the metro i have had an engine, but it was the restricted 50 and the computer, radiator, and other parts were missing so i sold the engine for more than i had in it and 3 other parts scoots. I have a 90cc 2 stroke cvt motor on a china 4 wheeler that looks to be about the right size and format to swap to the otherwise lame metro
the 86 spree i have is just a frame (and sad seized little engine) but im considering using my parts elite 80 bike to build it back naked style. or maybe even build a homemade gyro? who knows
the 79 (hobbit i think) is the 2 stroke pedal start bike. motor is gone and tank is fubared but wheels are perfect and frame is small and light (and VINed at 50cc)so i am thinking about doing a mini cafe racer build with the largest engine i can pass off as a 50.
the china projects i have are mostly parts, ive been trying to put together a decent frame and body to swap a long case 150 that runs great, but so far i just have a bunch of frames, and some partial bodies, mostly that look bad haha.
I also have a Kymco super9 engine that someone put on a 150cc 2 seat buggy. the 50cc water cooled 2 stroke was quite underpowered but still somehow pulled the large heavy buggy with large tires around. it came with the wheels of the ped, as well as the brakes, wire harness etc. the gauge cluster has an ungodly number of miles on it, but it ran and seemed to decently so I've started plans for a leaning reverse trike. I scored another matching, yet reverse pattern front wheel (so my directional wheels will be correct for trike) and have decided to go for a recumbent position using an aluminum racing seat. I am going to build a triangle truss frame from some small diameter tubing, and see how light and how strong i can build it. eventually i will make a fiberglass shell for it so i can use the water cooled radiator for HEAT and of course any other adverse weather conditions.
i have a lot of projects and partial projects, some give me a hard time for and i dont blame them... but i dont have a lot invested in them, and instead of dumping money into them i take my time building what i can, recycling parts from other projects and looking for cheaper ways to fix and upgrade what is broken. i have access to a machine shop so i can make things work when they normally otherwise wouldnt.
so thats all of my scooter project stuff ive got going on. i have a lot of other interests including three wheelers, four wheelers, six wheelers, offroad buggies, (even a mini jet boat) etc etc so i might not be slamming thru my scoot projects, but I am going to put some focus on them soon as they are piling up and taking up space. I might post a tidbit from another project every now and again for you guys.
oh and im in hickory NC, is there anyone else that lives around here on this forum?
