I love weather and the awesomeness of powerful storms. I would never wish that on anyone. I've never seen a tornado in my area. We've had a few close calls for sure here.

I've been an amatuer meteorologist for a long time and I've never seen a radar return like this before, debris field over 2 miles wide... absolute devastation. My heart is just broken for the poor people who lost their lives and those left in the wake of this disaster.

That black circle is the radar echoes dropping out from hitting solid objects, so yeah, it's literally all the debris getting thrown up into the vortex around the tornado. On the live helicopter shots it was hard to see the actual tornado since there was so much debris wrapped around it. I thought I heard that some debris was lifted so high into the supercell that the storm carried it like miles away.

This storm cell is not over and this is not the first time Moore Ok. has been hit. At this point due to the rain slacking I have internet. I am on satellite internet so heavy rain effects it.
This morning alone the tornado sirens 5 miles up the road at the little community of Oppelo have gone off on 3 occasions. Lot's of Arkieland under tornado watch at this moment. At present the clouds are so heavy and low at my house I can't see Petit Jean Mountain right in front of my house. So far I've dumped my rain gauge twice for a total of around 5 inches of rain and more coming. Temps have dropped somewhat which is a good thing to slow the spawning of tornados.
Arkansas is no stranger to the tornados that hit out neighbor Oklahoma too. It's going to be a spell yet before the storms settle down and all you can do is watch and stay ready.

This is the record tornado that hit Clinton Arkansas in 08. At that time I was in Oklahoma and my wife and kids were at our home in Clinton. It was the longest tornado in Arkansas history a EF4. The county courthouse sign was found 60 miles away in Mt. View. That night people lost their lives in Clinton my home and family were spared. Anna, my step daughter and stepson along with my future son-in-law were at Walmart when it hit and afterwards there was so many lines down and so much clutter they had to walk in the dark down hwy 65 to our home on the north end of town over 4 miles away. We had no idea if it was hit at the time or not? I heard the report in Oklahoma where I was at over 6 hours away. No phones worked so I traveled in the blind until I got home at nearly 4 a.m. to find them and my home safe. 2 weeks later we had a hail storm that destroyed the roof of my home and one vehicle. The hail was as big as eggs and when it quit it was over 4 inches deep on the ground. This is a picture caught by the media that night of my family walking home to our house after the tornado. In 2010 a EF3 hit the edge of Clinton again. The town has never fully recovered to this day. JR

Indeed, this storm system is far from over, although the worst of the tornado threat has passed.
It's just incredible to witness the power of mother nature at it's worst, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas are surely in the thick of it most the time. It's such a volatile area with all that heat and moisture, anytime the jetstream winds curl just right, you have some massive storms. Although this had been one of the least active years for tornadoes up until about a week ago, I'm afraid the increasing occurrence and violence of these natural disasters lately is only going to get worse with climate change...
