If you can't find the nut locally I did find a site that sells it online. I was doing a valve adjustment on my 150cc scooter and found that the valve adjustment screw was stripped (either by the factory or whoever did the first PDI.) So I needed to buy the screw and the nut. I bought mine from Scooterworks. www.scooterworks.com/valve-adjusting-nuts--pair--gy6-products-969.phpIt also appears as though the GY6 125/150cc cam holder retainer bracket and rocker arms kit from scrappydogscooters includes the parts you need but you may want to call to verify it. thanks. There is no way the nut can come out from any of the two OIL DRAIN PLUGS. The oil drain plug with the filter DOES NOT GO INTO into the crankcase. The other drain plug on the side of your kickstand the hole is to small for the nut to fit. You need to get one of those magnetic extnesions and try to fish if out through the cam chain opening. Now it could be on top of the Chain guide or inbetween the chain by the crank or along side the crank at the bottom. Alleyoop ok, guess i have my work cut out for me. couldn't do anything today, worked a dbl. i'm going to feel like a blind surgeon. hope it is easier than it sounds.

going to get started on this project just as soon as i can find that magnet. we have one somewhere around here. i put about 6 miles on this scoot without grinding any nuts so i am wondering if it is even in there. perhaps someone lost that nut and put it back together without it.

it's always possible it's just missing, since you said you just got it, somebody could have been fiddling around in there and lost it and been like "eehhhhh it'll hold" Don't know if that's a better or worse case scenario though, haha.

If you have an old harddrive or a magnet from one you would be able to just drag it along the lower area of the case and get a feel for where it is (if its there) and possibly slide it up and out. At least to an easy place to get her out with a magnet wand

I run a bicycle shop. Everything is metric. Hit up your local bicycle shop.

Valve adjusting nuts are not your garden-variety, hardware store nuts. They are fine-threaded, high strength steel, designed for a higher torque than standard fasteners (hence the fine thread, which facilitates torquing to those higher specs). Replace it only with another valve adjusting nut (a motorcycle shop might have one of the right size) - or else it will come loose in service, and go crunch/boom.

good news: the nut is not there. it was much easier than i anticipated to get/see all the way down to the crank sprocket. i thought i was going to need to move the chain.

you can take the remaining nut and adjuster to get a size and look for an appropriate replacement, rather than just going and asking for a nut. Your gonna readjust the valves when you have all the parts again anyhow.
