So I've noticed that my TaoTao's come with black painted, steel exhausts, and a shiny polished steel cover. The shiny polished steel cover, I treated with Corrosion X, and it does a marvelous job in keeping the appearance shiny!
However, the exhaust pipe itself, coming from the engine, to the muffler, is starting to corrode as well. The paint is chipping off, and small rust specs are becoming visible. I remember last time when I did a ride and some corrosion x fell on it, the product sizzled into smoke, and was no longer visible. So I'm a bit at a loss about how to treat the exhaust!
Any ideas?

what i did sir is this
wheel wheel / brush it as clean as you can get it then use heat paint, i used silver, heat it the way the directions say to. i did have a extra stove to use, they say if u use it for food NOT to do this, but mine was getting thrown away, cause i bought a new one and mine has been great for 2 yrs now, even with salt and washes etc

Clean with degreaser and sand it first . I bought some VHT from AutoZone . Its best if you have a heat gun to warm up the pipe so the paint will adhere better than when its cold

Thanks for the suggestions. Why need a heat gun, when you can just fire up the engine?

Terrylee the pipe will get hotter than the oven will but you have a valid point that the pipe needs to be warmed up evenly if you just fire the motor up you could sorch the paint before it cures

I have read where some put the exhaust pipe into a BBQ grill to heat it up . Make sure to fully let the paint dry before using to prevent a fire .

If you do not cure the VHT paint the way the directions say or it will not hold up. an oven would be best, most wives won't let you use the kitchen oven, I know guys that have used their gas bar b que, and some that have used the heat guns that you use to remove paint with.

Ok, I ain't got any of that... Is an oven really necessary? I can put it in the shack in the back, gets 100 degrees F in there! its been a few years, prodigit, but if i 'member correctly, the directions said to paint , put in oven for a hour or so, let cool paint again, oven for a few hours, another coat of paint then like 3 hours, in the oven
when i 1st did it, i scrapped all the rust off etc, put the pipe back on, painted it then tried to let the engine heating the pipe. didnt work well at all. it like scorched it.
so, when i was getting my new oven { anyone wanna buy it} i put the old one in the bottom apt. and followed the directions on the can, as noted above.
got a friend with a propane gas grill?
