The one I ordered is very heavy! Wht cant i just run a strait pipe the same diameter? Shouldnt cause and performance issues because Im not changing outflow just eliminating the muffler right? Anything I bolt up to the flange will only quiet the system. It shouldnt throw off the carb settings.
Im running stock carb etc.

I wouldnt just use a pipe.
What I did was grinded the end cap off of the muffler cut the muffler off at about 8 in from the front. the pipe that comes in is capped and I drilled 3 3/16 holes in the cap
when you cut it off at the 8in it gets rid of the baffles. but grind the end you cut off clean and grind the cap tap it back onto the muffler end and you can have it welded mine went on enough to screw it on but I soldered mine on in a few spots and it works great gives it a nice sound but not to loud

Some communities have noise ordinances you may check yours first. Also yes keep an expansion chamber like said above. Eliminating weight is a good way to go faster, so its a good thought. Any change to your exhaust though will change the way the engine breathes I would keep a close eye on my plug after any modifications.

Running a 4T without a muffler is ok...as long as you don't mind running without an exhaust valve in the near future...  Ya gotta have something or it will burn your exhaust valve....  |

Your exhaust valves will not suffer a thing for as long as you have at least an exhaust pipe of 2ft out of the engine.
Running without muffler would give you the best speed increase, as the back pressure will be nearest to zero as it can. however, your, and the people around you's ears will ring.
Any engine, even a 50cc engine, running without some sort of sound damping will damage the ears.
And in many places it's illegal to run without muffler (or some way to reduce the noise).
My suggestion, find a large diameter performance exhaust made out of aluminum. Those won't rust or corrode easily, and damp the sound better than smaller ones; while at the same time allowing better airflow.

This is what happened to a friends scooter who rode around for two months with no muffler . The end on the exhaust valve burned off and ate up the piston and cylinder Attachments:

If you're running it with a too small exhaust pipe it could happen, It's a big thing on motorcycles; a lot of them ride without any muffling, just straight pipes. They're very noisy, but give you best MPG's and performance. The principle between motorcycle and scooter is the same. When they ride without any pipe, their exhaust valves burn too. Their exhaust valves could even burn with a broken exhaust gasket. |

Skuttadawg that scooter had to be so lean it wouldnt run no?
I think if my scooter ran fine with just the pipe from the manifold to the flange it should be ok.

Has far has i know you can run a straight pipe, a lot of guys with the gy6 ruckus run a straight pipe without issue and we are talking fully modded out 150cc plus, i know a guy that ran a gy6 50 retro with no exhaust at all for over a half a year with no issue it broke off and i keep saying you going to blow it it blah blah he just keep riding like that.I am getting ready to ride with a straight pipe on my ruckus clone.

I know plenty of Harley riders with no muffler but they have long pipes and the carb upjetted . If you take off the muffler it has more flow thus will be lean without upjetting and ruin the engine . The pipe is to remove heat away from the head . My buddies bracket broke as he was jumping speed bumps and he later got mad and ripped the pipe off . He did not upjet it thus it was very lean and ran hot thus fried the engine

I may do that but Im out 2 brand new exhausts as of now.
At least with the Jonway exhaust the muffler can be detached.

had a header pipe laying around threw it on to see what the sound was like and it was sweet, video doesn't really capture it but i think i will ride like this   |
