looking for some input from everyone who has had to replace a cdi, how did you know that was the specific issue that was bad, these chinese scoots dont have the best wiring so my next attempts will be to replace all the connections between everything for the engine to run with higher quality tighter connecting plugs
one issue i had was that i was getting all the correct voltage numbers but couldnt for the life of me get spark, replaced the cdi and she fired right up, now with a different scoot im having a no spark but power isnt getting to the coil + either from the cdi... so im assuming thats bad but i just want everyones input, and please dont link a how to troubleshoot no spark, ive already got the whole document memorized, i just want personal experiences

Make sure the coil connectors are secure and not loose. (Mine are green and black.) You can tighten them up with pliers if needed or order a new coil for about $8-10. If you order a new CDI make sure you know to get AC or DC. (I just made that mistake.) Some bikes wont spark if they're not on the center stand so make sure you either have it on the center stand or off of a stand completely when checking for spark. You might have a kill switch on the side stand. If it's not those or the CDI you can check the fuse that connects to the positive side of the battery. Most/All wont start if the fuse is bad. Then if THAT'S not it it could be your ignition switch... Good luck!

"now with a different scoot im having a no spark but power isnt getting to the coil + either from the cdi... so im assuming thats bad but i just want everyones input, and please dont link a how to troubleshoot no spark, ive already got the whole document memorized" Since you have it memorized..and followed it...you should have your problem solved right? Ok no power to coil...or from CDI... so what is next in line to check? Answer= Is there power TO the CDI.....if not you won't get any spark...right? So having the 'whole document memorized' which wire provides current to the CDI?..and what does it show when you check it? If it shows the proper current TO the CDI...the CDI is bad..if it shows no current from the stator to the CDI....what do you think is wrong?... You already have your answer.. ;D

You really do not know if it is your CDI, some of the symptoms are also caused by the variator and or just heat and or lack of fuel. Some CDIs just die others will start to go bad and will not allow it to rev past a certain point some will all of a sudden be to retarded or to advanced. None of use have the right equipment to actually test a CDI and make sure it is working right.
There was a VIDEO of a shop showing how they test a CDI and a R/R and it was not a simple setup, with different gauges and a electric motor with a speed control hooked up to turn a stator to mimic different rpms.
You can test all around it and then come to the conclusion it is your CDI and or your COIL and that is about as close as your going to get. Alleyoop

The experience comes from troubleshooting...the troubleshooting comes from the link to the 'No spark' document. There really is no easy answer except troubleshooting to rule things out. With an exception..some of us such as myself are parts/repair places. If I suspect a bad CDI I swap in a known good one..cause I have bunches of new ones.
