Ok so I'm getting my first brand new scooter its a gy6 150. I'm going to do some upgrades on it like bigger jets and a newer air filter. Was wondering if I should wait to upgrade after the break in period or what?

I would say break it in hard and change the oil often. That's how I have done everything I have owned and its always worked out great.

When I got mine with 1 mile a year ago, it max speed gps was 47mph with 10 gram rollers. Rpms were 6,500 and I was just seeing what the top speed was in a short run.
After that I did a LOT of neighborhood riding everyday. Lots of stop and go staying 25mph the first couple hundred miles then I changed oil and increased to max of 35mph stop and go traffic.
Do everything you can to PDI everything. For me electrical I had no problems and didn't worry about it, until one morning my headlights wouldn't come on.
All I had to do was 6 or so screws to take off the headlights with the top part still on. It was the gang connector going to the headlights, it was loose and blades needed tightening a little for a tighter connection.
I had 100 miles on mine and I was already wanting to change rollers/sliders try different jets and put it on. Just use some will power and WAIT til its broke in. Got to know how the performance is stock before trying new stuff to see if it improves.
Point is just enjoy the ride do maintenance often in break in and then after that go nuts or be conservative.

I've only got 200 miles on my new 300cc Zodiac I've kept it at 40 MPH and under for the entire 200 miles (well, once up to 45 cause i wasn't looking and it just kept on climbing)
You saying I should run it up to max (60-65) every now and then?

You do whatever you want with your scooter.
I was just saying I had curiosity and wanted to know what the top speed my was after changing the oil a couple times.
People say the old tried and true "easy break in"
Hard break-in I've heard racers do before a race with their brand new parts.
What I get out of all of it is vary your rpms and don't cruise at a single speed for break-in.
I'd really like to see a Mythbusters episode on "Easy VS Hard Break-in" they could use two of the same model engine and keep everything identical except for Jamie could be riding "hard break in" and Adam riding "easy break in" .
I'm searching for episodes now that I've thought of this.

I'm curious if anyone did the easy break in on a 50cc scooter? I just can't see riding it at quarter to half throttle for many miles.

I've had greatest success in the beginning to just let it idle; then run around at low speeds, and do a lot of engine braking, and small accelerations. The trick is not to go all out in the beginning, the piston rings could scrape and damage the cylinder wall, so take it easy. Once you've done your first oilchange ~50miles, you can take it a bit faster. I would not do WOT until at least 100-200 miles, and even then, only occasionally. I would open it completely, only after 400 miles.
