Thanks, Doug. Buggin', I appreciate the thought. I think.... Maybe someone will take out your neighbour's car's front end while it's parked, thus leaving the rear bumper intact to sell to me. I really am not comfortable driving around with a shattered back bumper. Makes me a nervous driver. And nervous drivers aren't driving their best. And of course it's supposed to snow again this weekend, so no scooting yet for this lil' 'Kat. I had planned to take Peejers in for oil and tune-up tom. Sigh. >'Kat

I stopped at my mechanic's today. They told me it's really just the cover that's all shattered. The bumper itself is almost fine. That makes me way less nervous about driving around.
Although one of them had to point out, if somebody slams into me from behind, that bumper only takes off, what?, maybe 5mph from the impact? Thanks, Bill. Way to put me at ease again. HEY YOU, YES YOU TAILGATING ME, YOU BACK UP MISTER!!!

Update. After Mech Dave contacted several sellers on car-parts.com and getting either "Oh, that's sold and gone" or no reply, we finally got ahold of a guy from 4 Brothers in Lincoln NE. It arrived today. Oh great joyful happiness!! It's grey, meaning it's from a GL not an LX, but repainting was part of the quoted price any who. I'M SO FREAKIN' HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!! I still want to know why folks post parts for sale then don't take off the ad when it sells. Esp, why they don't even respond to a potential buyer. That's like spitting on income. Don't get it. If I had a parts store, I'd have somebody just man the listings and answer any inquiries. I mean, seriously, that's money those non-responders lost out on. If I was a dog, my tail would be smackin' everything right now! There's not a smiley-enough smiley to express how happy-happy-happy I am! >'Kat

|‹* to ya', buggin. You're funny.
My friend at work, his mother-in-law has a Sable wagon, same generation. Said he drove down her street and there it was. A block up, there was another. Turned the corner and saw yet another. Said he didn't realise how many of these wagons are still out there.
I said apparently so since there aren't many in the salvage yards.

Had a thought as I woke up this morn. While he's mixing up paint for the bumper, I wonder if he can slap some on the right door bumper panels where some idiot backed into me. Doors are fine (he buffed out the damage) but the rubber guards lost their layer of paint in spots. Wouldn't have to be perfect, just green. That white really bothers me, has ever since it happened, and that was several years ago now. That surely wouldn't cost very much extra, not since he'll already have the paint.... >'Kat

Did just that, buggin. He said there'll be a bit of colour difference, cause when you spray metallic paint the metallic pieces are edge-on, but when you brush it they're flat. But he agreed it'll look better than the white.
Also told me Ford had recalled the paint way back. (this came from my asking about the fading on the roof) Said it's most likely way too late, but said it's worth a call to see if they'll do anything about it. Said it was a flaw in the clear coat bonding with the paint, it separates then peels and the paint fades bad. Said at worst they tell me "no" and I'm no worse than where I'm already at. And who knows, they might just say "what the heck, she's kept her Ford 16 out of 21 years, has maintained it and kept it nice, sure why not, let's pony up for a repaint". Said it's worth a try.
But he'll at least paint up the white scrapes for me. That'll be nice.

Glad to hear you got your bumper finally.
I don't think Ford will consider the pain still under warranty, good luck on that one.

Thanks Doug. Like body shop guy said, won't hurt to try. Just spends a few minutes of time is all.
Crazy how hard it was to get a bumper. I mean, there were like a billion Taurie out there, so probably several thousand wagons. You'd think there'd be more sitting around for parts than the very very few (read almost none) we found.

When he is painting it too, that $650.00 seems like a decent price to me. You can drive by a body shop and not get charged a lot more than that usually. Just a replacing damaged bumper COVER on my Magnum ran $980 4+ years ago. (Fortunately, the idiot that hit me had insurance.)

Jaraxle, I'm really glad mine wasn't that much. Since I didn't think to get the bozos' insurance info! State Farm counted it as not an accident since I didn't cause it, plus it's under the thresh-hold. So either way it doesn't ding my record nor change my rates.
Taurie-car goes in this afternoon, to get all fixed up Monday. I am SO looking forward to finally having an intact bumper again. Plus those white scrapes no longer white. I really do try to take care of my vehicles, that's why this bothers me so much, looking like a merging special.

All righty, folks, the continuing saga of Taurie's bumper problems not only keeps going, it grows.
Apparently somebody backed into my wagon yest. Older guy in a Toyota pickup. Yes, he was on his cell. (aside here--folks, PLEASE don't back and chat!) Backed right into the Taurus' front end. Randy (body shop guy) said my front bumper looked like my back bumper did. Also dented the fender and broke the side light (dunno if this is the blinker portion of that headlight, or the cornering light).
Good news though. Guy came in and owned up to it. Said he would pay for all damages he'd caused. Kudos to him for that! So Randy went out this morn and found a front bumper (wagons and sedans apparently share those the same) and had already straightened the dent and replaced the light when we talked at 3:30. Primed and was ready for painting. Should be finished for me to retrieve tom after work (barring anyone else backing into him!)
Best part of all this, the front bumper had started the clear coat separation like the side mirrors had gone through (leaves it sort of silvery instead of medium seafoam green). So that's gone. Plus Randy's going to go ahead and repaint the side mirrors while he's at it, so that paint fade will be gone. All that, plus touching up those scrapes showing the white rubber molding, means the only thing wrong appearance-wise will be the fading on the roof. And I'm still planning on wasting the time calling Ford about that--never know what they might agree to.
Funniest part of this--Randy said the guy's Toyota truck actually took more damage than my Ford Taurus. Tore up (and almost tore off) the running board. So who's da big dog there, huh? Built Ford-tough, booyah baby!
>'Kat, hoping and praying my next update is a joyful "I have him back!"
