terri, that makes sense about frozen vs warm.
I think my mechs are calling the locals. I'm a bit leery of internet, after reading the eBay sellers trying to push a 2000-something bumper as "fits a '92". I'm old school, I want to see it first. Or have somebody besides the seller see it and confirm it's good and right and everything.

Kat, I've put the word out to a few of my mechanic friends and some junkyard buddies for ya but haven't heard back from any yet. With the cold and all the snow on the ground they probably don't want to go look around, but I'll keep askin'.

Doug, I think that's a sedan bumper. My wagon's bumper drops down a bit across the top and is flat across. Probably so the liftgate has room to open.
I did do a google search. I found a couple but they don't include the step plate the goes on the top (it's the black/dark grey strip in my photos).
Roy, thanks for putting out the word.
I'll let y'all know tonight what the body-shop guy says.

So here's the update.
I did stop and talk to the body guy. He checked around with HIS contacts and found a couple available. One's even green, 200 miles away. Of course, it might be mint green or dark Ford green....
He gave me a quote for bumper and paint and installation for $650. Does that sound like a fair price for this? My only comparison is Mom's back bumper on her Sable sedan, new from Ford for $2000 (or was it $2500? something around that). And mine from 10 years ago when I got rear-ended, which including painting the dogleg and liftgate was $3000.
Meanwhile I also called my insurance agent. They put in a claim for me, so we could find out for sure if it would even be covered (which she thinks it should 'cause I have full coverage--crazy on a 21 year old car, but I want to keep my deductible!), and if it would jack up my rates or not (she thought not, if the repairs come in under $750).
So that's where I'm at right now. You'd think with a big bunch out of a million Taurii out there, that more folks would have a back bumper.

When he is painting it too, that $650.00 seems like a decent price to me. You can drive by a body shop and not get charged a lot more than that usually.

Latest update--
Talked with the claims agent from State Farm. He said it wouldn't mess my accident free discount 'cause it'll go as not my fault. I guess like a hit and run. The adjustor came out today and checked around and got quotes, and issued me a check that'll cover almost all the price Randy quoted me.
Adjustor also told me Randy's a really good guy and he'll do right for me. Might not be completely perfect 'cause it's not new, but he'll make it good regardless. Also said the worst will be matching my 21-year-old faded paint. My poor old car.
I called Randy at lunch and he's booked this week, said call Monday and we'll set up when to bring in my wagon. Said it'll take a day, possibly two tops. Which means the Mamma won't be real happy for one or two days, having to get up early and haul me to work and pick me up again in the eve.
And thanks again for all the support, guys and terri. Very much appreciated!

Say wang', thanks for offering to donate to the "paint 'Kat's old Taurus" fund! Real sweet of you. ;D
Latest update--as soon as I called with the go-ahead, Randy contacted the yards that showed online they have wagons. So far nobody's gotten back with him. Probably too cold to go tromping through acres of cars just to see if that old beater Taurus wagon has an intact rear bumper or not. He was gonna' call them this afternoon to get them motivated to check.
Roy, if you can recheck with any of your connections and see if they've got a rear bumper for a '92 Taurus wagon I'd appreciate it. 'Cause I'm getting a little nervous now about Randy's connections not answering....
(seriously folks, if your business is selling parts, why wouldn't you go check for a bumper, even if it's cold &/or snowy &/or whatever? That's just money you're passing up. I don't get it.)

Talked with Randy today. His two suppliers finally bothered to get back to him. Neither has a rear bumper for a wagon. He's going to You Wrench It this weekend for a Jeep grill and will look for a bumper too.
But looks like I might need my scoot-buds' help after all. Put out the word--anybody know anyone with a rear wagon bumper?
